Become a "Holy Roller"
The deacons’ Earth Angel Ministry have made it possible for you become a "holy roller".  If you find you need a ride to church on any Sunday, call the church office.  The van driver will call you to arrange a Sunday morning pick up.  If you need someone to do grocery shopping, call Julie Miner at 609-989-8282 or the church office and we will make arrangements to pick up your order and do the shopping for you.  If you need a ride to the doctor, don’t fret and worry, call Julie or the church office and you can see how fast it will be for you to become a holy roller and get to where you need to go.  The Earth Angels are waiting for a call from you.

Special Congregational Meeting
There will be a special meeting of the congregation of Covenant Presbyterian Church immediately following worship on July 9 for the purpose of responding to the request of the Session to re-activate the position of associate pastor.  And also to request that the congregational nominating committee select seven to nine persons to be recommended to be elected to serve as an associate pastor.  The Associate Pastor nominating committee to be elected by the congregation at a future date.

Summer Meetings
There will be no regular meetings of the session or deacons in July and August.  However, the executive committee of the session will meet on August 28 at 7:00 p.m.  All committees that plan to meet in July and August are encouraged to hold their meetings at the church on Thursday evenings since that is when there will be a security guard at the church.  There will be no evening guard throughout the summer except on Thursdays.

Oktoberfest
I know, you're all thinking, "October?  Who's thinking about October?"  Well hopefully we all are as we take on those summer projects.  So, as you clean out those closets and garages, consider donating to the following tables:  Almost New, Silent Auction, Woodworking and the Children's Table.  The key to a successful Oktoberfest is participation!  Speaking of which, thanks to all those idividuals who contributed to the Spring Preview.

As always we appreciate your input.  If you have any questions or ideas please call us:  Sharon Botteri, Carol Stawski or Caroline Trueman at 609-989-8282.  Have a safe and happy summer!

Shel's Worshop
summer has just begun and it seems too soon to be thinking about Oktoberfest, but the planning has already begun.  Some may already know that Shel Wagner, who has been the head of and driving force behind the woodworking table for over twenty-five years, has retired from this very important Oktoberfest table.  The Oktoberfest committee would like to continue the tradition of a woodworking table in Oktoberfest that Shel has established and maintained with his fellow craftsmen.

Over the years a woodworking shop was established and maintained by Shel and fellow woodworkers in the basement of the church.  The shop was outfitted with tools and supplies that they needed to produce the many items seen at Oktoberfest.  The space still exists but the shop does not.  We are trying to work out a new process to move forward with the woodworking table.  We would also like to change the name of the table to Shel’s Workbench in honor of Shel Wagner.

During this transition and in order to accomplish this goal, we are looking for anyone that would be interested in producing a woodcraft item and donating it to the woodworking table.  The idea for this year, at least, is to take a decentralized approach.  Instead of a group meeting together, we could work in our own homes, with others, or alone as time permits us to do so.

We have some ideas for projects and could probably get more from various woodworking supply catalogs.  We also know that there are talented people in our church family who have more ideas for woodcraft projects.  These projects could include such items as: bird houses, bird feeders, candle lanterns, flower window boxes, toaster tongs, cutting boards, coffee mug racks, wooden toys, baby cradles, children’s stools/chairs . . .you get the idea.  We are going to try to coordinate the projects so that we don’t all produce the same items, like everyone showing up for a picnic with potato salad.

If you would like to participate by producing a craft item, brainstorming ideas for projects, helping to work out a process to continue to move forward or simply have questions, please call Dave Tregurtha or Russ Peters at 609-989-8282

Organ Transplant
As part of the chapel renovation, the electronic organ will be  transplanted to a new home.  If you would like to have this organ or if you know someone who would, please call the church office and someone will contact you.  The electronic organ is in good condition and is free to a good home, but you must provide the transportation.

New Pictorial Directory
The session urges all members, visitors, and friends to sign up now to have your picture taken.  Our goal is to have a picture of every member in our new 2000 church directory.  Just for agreeing to have your picture taken, you will receive one 8 x 10 portrait free and also a copy of the new pictorial directory.  You do not have to buy any other pictures even though you will be offered various packages to purchase.  We would like to have a directory that will enable us to get to know one another by name and face.  Please sign up to get your picture taken on one of the following dates.  We need your help to get everyone in the directory.  Thanks so much for your willingness to take part in this endeavor.  Choose one of the dates below and sign up now.

The Crafters
The crafters continue to meet on Thursday mornings at 10:00 a.m. and evenings at 7:00 p.m.  This can be a great way to enjoy some laughs and discover new gifts.  Donations of silk flowers, lace doilies and lace decorative hankies are still appreciated.

Speaking of donations, the Pantry needs two-quart freezable containers for the sauces.

We continue to need volunteers for the security, the parking lot, and elevator attendees and clean up personnel.  There continue to be opportunities for Children's Games.  This is an area that can be a llot of fun if you enjoy children and would like to include them in the festivities intheir own special way!  Please call 609-989-8282 if you would like more information.

Welcome to the Hitsons
Welcome to Jim and Marvel Hitson who are the new occupants of our church apartment.  Jim will be a senior at Princeton Theological Seminary and is working as an intern at First Presbyterian Church in Trenton.  Marvel is a June graduate from Princeton Theological Seminary with a dual degree in Social Work from Rutgers University in New Brunswick.  The Hitsons were married on June 20 and our apartment is their first home.  They have very limited furniture and will be most grateful to anyone who might have something to offer them.  They are putting together a "most urgent" list that will be available in the Sunday bulletin.  If you have something you would like to donate to this wonderful couple in ministry, please call the church office and someone will call you back.  Currently they are repainting their new home.  We welcome Jim and Marvel into our house.  We look forward to getting to know them better.

Thank You To Members of Covenant
We thank Russ Peters and Barbara Cieplechowicz of the Church Beautification Committee for planting the flowers in front of the church entrance.  And to George McClain who removed shrubs, prepared the ground for planting, and continues to maintain the lawn for the church.  Julie Miner has drawn up a design plan for the grounds as approved by the Session and the committee members including Katharine Osborn and Louise Berghuis who worked on the implementation.  The design includes a memorial prayer garden that has been planned to be created on the grounds nestled between the education building and the sanctuary.

Thanks to Regina Piermatti who has purchased the many interior directional signs over doors and hallways to make our building more accessible and user friendly.  Regina has also given new outdoor signs that will be placed on the two corners of our property and a newly revised lighted sign for the church announcements.  The signs are given in loving memory of her husband Matthew.

Much thanks to Lee Weber who continues to donate one or two days a week to the church as he paints the interior wood work in our lobby area.  He has volunteered to continue painting the interior walls as the church beautification committee selects the paint.

A thank you to the memorial committee who have begun the chapel renovation with the purchase of two new brass chandeliers in loving memory of Henry Reiner.  A new brass chandelier has been purchased to be installed in the lobby in loving memory of Al Dransfield, in the balcony in loving memory of Elsie Voorhees, in the narthex in loving memory of Joan Wright and Myrtle Nixon, and in the balcony stairwell in loving memory of Hilda Tregurtha.  These memorial gifts will all be dedicated at a future service of worship after all the renovation work and memorial gifts have been purchased.

A thank you to Sherry Ryan who served so well as our church treasurer for the past year and a half.  Sherry had to give up the work because of the increasing demands of her growing family.  Thanks Sherry for all you did.

Thanks to George McClain, not only for his ongoing volunteer maintenance of our lawn, but also for the recent purchase of a new snow blower  George brought for the specific purpose of maintaining the snow removal of our walks and parking lot this winter.  Thanks for your commitment, George.

Thanks goes to Dave Tregurtha who made and installed the new bulletin board in the wall in Fellowship Hall.  The board is being well used to communicate the news and information about Covenant members and our church life.

Thank You, Art!
Special thanks to Arthur Burtis who has managed and maximized the Memorial Trust Funds for the past 23 years.  Art has been tireless in his work, volunteering countless hours to make sure the gifts given as bequests could be used to their fullest potential to serve the work of the Church of Jesus Christ.  He has now turned the management of those funds over to Salomon Smith Barney under the supervision and watchful eye of the Finance Committee.  Art will continue to offer his wisdom and counsel as a member of the Finance Committee.  We are grateful to have such an outstanding servant of the Lord as one of the leaders in our church.  Thanks, Art!

Thank You Note from Conrad Newman
Many thanks to all that came out to Clean Up Day 2000.  So much accomplished - so little time.  Blessings and fellowship abounded as we worked together to clean our Lord’s house.  By the way, what was that mystery meat that was thrown out of the refrigerator?  Tuna?  Oh, that was lunch!  And who knew of that unsigned art work under the pew?  Quote of the day: "Oh, I’ll have that finished today."  NOT!  And, lest we forget the old joke, how many Presbyterians does it take to change a light bulb?  We not only got a lot accomplished, but we had a good time doing it.  There is a rumor that we’ll do it again in the fall.

Thanks to:  Christopher Aldridge, Gregory Aldridge, James Danner, Al Drake, Bill Glazebrook, Bud Hildebrand, Casey Holcombe, Marion Holcombe, Kathy Jamhoury, Kathleen & Stephan Konopka, Patrick McMullen, Edie Multop, Cathie & Dave Osborn, Regina Piermatti, Jane Politi, Barbara Pollison, Carol & Dave Pollison, Catherine Providence, Sherry & Lory Ryan, Carl Stawski, Ann & Dave Tregurtha, Tom Wallace, Shawn Warman, Bev & Lee Weber.
                              -- Conrad
