PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:

Dear Sisters:

Let us remember the residents of the Gulf States who have suffered, first through Hurricane Katrina and again through Rita.  We should imagine ourselves in these people’s situation and think for a moment how we would deal with the loss of family, friends, our homes and jobs.  Please keep the people in your prayers and if you are in a position to give, do so through the many legitimate organizations that will assist in getting the victims back on their feet.  What a monumental task!

As we move ahead with our 2005-2006 year, I’m sure we look forward to our guests on Oct. 11, namely Merion Wells and Gretchen Bryant of Hightstown High School.  They will discuss the tutoring and mentoring program “Reaching for Academic Success” and answer your questions.  They will arrive at the Library at

8 p.m., so be on time at 7:30 so we can have a short business meeting before they make their presentation.  Remember, the libraries will be closed for Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 8, therefore, the regular monthly meeting for November will be held at my home.

Don’t forget our first outing for relaxation will be a Tea at the Chauncey Conference Center on Nov. 12.  Let me know if you plan to attend so I can make reservations.

Enjoy the beautiful Fall Season.

Peace,

Joyce

TIPS

Teakettle Cleaning

  • To remove lime deposits, fill the kettle with equal parts of vinegar and water.  Bring to a boil and allow to stand overnight.

  • Or fill with water and refrigerate for about half a day.  The lime is worked free by the cold and will come out when the kettle is emptied.

  • For Corningware teapots, fill with water and drop in two denture-cleaning tablets.  Let stand thirty minutes and rinse well.

  • Or pour one-quarter cup of vinegar or lemon juice in the pot and fill with hot water.  Let stand a couple of hours and rinse.

GET WELL

Liston has had two operations on his right eye recently, and may need further treatment.  Please keep him in your prayers.
CLOTHING COLLECTION
Clothing (in good condition and clean, for working women) are always needed by the Urban Women's Center, 1201 W. State St., Trenton.  Contact: Dir., Doris Williams (609) 989-1925) and Dress for Success, (also known as Suitably Dressed), 640 S. Broad St., Trenton (contact Mary - 989-6639 - from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.; Mon - Fri).  These organizations assist women who are returning to work and do not have the proper attire for work.

They also need shoes and handbags.  Thank you for your help in this matter.  Your donations will be greatly appreciated.

If you have large donations, it would be best to contact these agencies and arrange for drop off and to find out if they have the space for large donations. They can use suits and other clothing  for men, also.

PLEASE KEEP THE FOLLOWING INDIVIDUALS
 IN YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS:
Liston, Ruth's sister, Laurel, Ruth's mother;  Louise's uncle; Kevin; Illean's brother, Bill, and Lorna's mother.

We continue to wish them all well and keep them in our prayers.

It is our intention to remember all who are ill, lost a loved one or congratulate members and their families when achievements are

made.  However, you must let Ruth know so mention can be made in the Newsletter.
