A Note from the President:

Dear Members and Friends:

October is the month of harvest, colors and cooler nights.  It is also the month of our annual Open House (October 12th, 3:00 p.m. at the Hickory Corner Library), the first festive celebration of the CJNBW calendar.

This year’s Open House will feature a lecture by Dr. L. Diane Campbell, Dean for Student and Academic Services at Mercer County Community College.  Dean Campbell is also responsible for the Virtual Campus, and she has developed a wide reputation in New Jersey and nationally for her expertise in web-based course delivery.  Diane Campbell is a good friend of the “Network,” and we are confident that her remarks to us will be motivating and educational.

The other exciting part of the Open House program will be the presentation of book support awards to seven (7) women who are “non-traditional” college students.  All of our awardees have overcome barriers to achieve their college educations, and all of them have earned high GPA’s, including being on the Dean’s List.  This is the third year that CJNBW has assisted full-time students who attend one of the central New Jersey colleges, and we are proud and grateful to help these ambitious and courageous women.

Let us make every effort to support our awardees, to hear our speaker, and to network.  Invite a friend and a young person to meet these women, and Dr. Campbell, whose own “story” is an education in itself.

Peace,

Noreen Lois

TIPS

Shower Walls and Floor: Use a sponge mop that has been dunked into a bucket containing a solution of 1/2 cup vinegar, 1 cup clear ammonia and 1/4 cup baking soda in 1 gallon of water.  Rub around entire surface then rinse with clear water. CAUTION: DO NOT try to remove stains on porcelain tile or fiberglass with abrasive powders or steel-wool pads, because they'll scratch.
