PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:

Dear Sisters:

As the Holidays creep up on us, I’m sure everyone will be extra busy with family, friends and work.  Just remember to take a little time to pamper yourself.  We often do so much for others and forget to care for ourselves.  The ‘Tea” on 11/12 at Chauncey Conference Center and the Holiday Party on 12/11 will give us an opportunity to “take care” of ourselves.  RSVP regarding the ‘Tea” by 11/5 as reservations must be made.

Let’s not forget those who continue to suffer after the many hurricanes, earthquakes and other natural disasters, and do whatever you can to assist.

We thank our October guests, Gretchen and Merion for shedding more light on the mentoring and tutoring program, “Reaching for Academic Success” at the Hightstown High School.  I do hope, that as a group,  we can contribute to the success of this

necessary program.

At the Nov. Steering Committee meeting, we will start planning to contact colleges to recruit women who are interested in applying for our Book Awards that will be given out at our Open House next year.

The Thanksgiving Holiday is only about 4 weeks away and it is my hope that each of you will gather with family, friends and significant others and have a blessed weekend.  Travel in safety to your destinations.

Ladies, thank you for the delicious food provided for the October meeting and as usual, thanks to Louise for the beautiful table decorations.

Peace and Blessings,

Joyce

TIPS

Cutting Cheese

A dull knife works better than a sharp one for slicing.

Warm the knife before cutting cheese, and the cheese will slice easily as butter.

GET WELL

Liston's eye condition has improved.  Both he and his doctor are pleased with the progress.
CLOTHING COLLECTION
Clothing (in good condition and clean, for working women) are always needed by the Urban Women's Center, 1201 W. State St., Trenton.  Contact: Dir., Doris Williams (609) 989-1925) and Dress for Success, (also known as Suitably Dressed), 640 S. Broad St., Trenton (contact Mary - 989-6639 - from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.; Mon - Fri).  These organizations assist women who are returning to work and do not have the proper attire for work.

They also need shoes and handbags.  Thank you for your help in this matter.  Your donations will be greatly appreciated.

If you have large donations, it would be best to contact these agencies and arrange for drop off and to find out if they have the space for large donations. They can use suits and other clothing  for men, also.

HELP KATRINA EVACUEES IN OUR AREA

I received an e-mail from my Church (Witherspoon St. Presby Church) stating that Trinity Episcopal Cathedral's Outreach Commission is working with the Rev. Alice Parker of Lifeline Emergency Shelter to help some 23 evacuee family members in the Trenton area.  I contacted a Ms. Wry and she stated they need linens of all type, household goods, can goods, cereal, detergent, paper towels.  If you would like to donate any of these items, please bring it to the meeting on Nov. 8 and I will get it to Rev. Parker.  Thanks.    (Joyce)

PLEASE KEEP THE FOLLOWING INDIVIDUALS
 IN YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS:
Ruth's sister, Laurel, Ruth's mother;  Louise's uncle; Kevin; Illean's brother, Bill, and Lorna's mother.

We continue to wish them all well and keep them in our prayers.

It is our intention to remember all who are ill, lost a loved one or congratulate members and their families when achievements are

made.  However, you must let Ruth know so mention can be made in the Newsletter.
