PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:

Dear Sisters

Happy MOTHER'S DAY to all generations of  mothers.  Remember to pamper yourself especially on this day - you deserve it.

Our discussion  continues on the future of CJNBW, and it is our hope that a final decision is made by our June meeting.  We have finally completed the letter that will be mailed out to ladies who have been affiliated with the Network over the past years, plus some prospective new members.  We hope this effort will save CJNBW.  Two new ladies are trying to help us recruit members.

Once again, any suggestions would be welcomed.

We are now waiting to find out how many book awards/scholarship forms will be submitted.

Ordinarily, we would be electing new officers this month, but under the present circumstances, that process will have to be postponed until we know what direction we will be taking.

We'd love to have your input, and look forward to seeing you on May 12th at Hickory Corner Road Library.

Take care.

Joyce

Want a cool (different) lemonade for the summer?

  Try:  Pineapple Limeade:

6 ripe limes

2 cups cold water

2 cups cold pineapple juice

1 liter club soda or seltzer, chilled

3/4 cup of sugar (or add your own sweetener)

In a large pitcher, add squeezed lime juice, water, pineapple juice, and sugar; stir until dissolved.  Refrigerate until ready to serve.  Add club soda or seltzer just before serving.  Pour over ice cubes in tall glass.  You can garnish will pineapple slices and lime.

2010 U.S. CENSUS - If you are interested in temporary work, you may want to contact the U.S. Census Bureau, as they are in the process (I understand) of hiring a large number of census takers.  The website you should contact is: www.census.gov/2010censusjob/index.phb or www.WUSA9.com.

There will most likely be ads in local newspapers, so be on the look-out.

TIPS for May, 2009

SALADS

To remove the core from a head of lettuce, hit the core end once against the counter top sharply.  The core will then twist out.  This prevents the brown spots that appear when you cut into lettuce.

To prevent soggy salads, place an inverted saucer in the bottom of the salad bowl.  The excess liquid drains off under the saucer ad the salad stays fresh and crisp.

Put cut-up salad greens or cole slaw in a metal bowl and place in freezer for a few minutes.  The greens will arrive on the table in perky condition.

PLEASE KEEP THE FOLLOWING INDIVIDUALS
 IN YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS:

Our continued best wishes are sent to the following:  Louise's uncle; Kevin and Regina; Illean's brother, Bill, Lorna's mother, and Ruth's mother-in-law. Also Louise and Walter.

It is our intention to remember all who are ill, lost a loved one, and congratulate members and their families when achievements are made. However, you must let Lois know so mention can be made in the Newsletter.
