PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:

Dear Sisters:

Our Black History Month Program was very informative, and we thank State Assemblyman William Payne for his talk about the “NJ Amistad Commission” and the law which states that all New Jersey Schools must incorporate Black History in their Social Studies Curriculum.  He’s very passionate about the Commission and is concerned about what all children and our children in particular are taught about Black History.  It’s up to informed parents and citizens in general to make sure that this important issue isn’t swept under the rug.  Everyone needs to be proud of his/her ancestor’s contributions to American History.

We thank Illean for making contact with Assemblyman Payne’s office and eventually securing him as a speaker.

Spring is fast approaching, and we start thinking of pretty flowers, gardens, etc. However, we must complete the final preparations for our Open House which

will be held on March 19 at the Hickory Corner Road Library.  Immediately following the Open House, we will start finalizing plans for the “Woman of the Year” luncheon which will be held on June 4.

Thanks to Lois for all her efforts in contacting many colleges to recruit applicants for our Book Awards, which will be distributed at the Open House program.

Thanks to Louise for making up the beautiful “baby basket” for Kevin and Regina’s new grandchild. Regina has sent a very special “Thank you” to the Network.  Remember to stay in touch with them.

We congratulate Eleanor on her son, Randy’s selection as “The Apprentice”.  We are all equally proud and wish him the very best.

Thank you ladies of CJNBW for doing a wonderful job.

Joyce

TIPS
For ink spots on clothing:

Soak them in warm milk before they dry.  If the stain persists, sprinkle table salt into them and drizzle lemon juice over them.

CLOTHING COLLECTION
Clothing (in good condition and clean, for working women) are always needed by the Urban Women's Center, 1201 W. State St., Trenton.  Contact: Dir., Doris Williams (609) 989-1925) and Dress for Success, (also known as Suitably Dressed), 640 S. Broad St., Trenton (contact Mary - 989-6639 - from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.; Mon - Fri).  These organizations assist women who are returning to work after a lengthy absence, and do not have and do

not have the proper attire for work.  They also need shoes and handbags.  Thank you for your help in this matter.  Your donations will be greatly appreciated.

If you have large donations, it would be best to contact these agencies and arrange for drop off and to find out if they have the space for large donations. They can use suits and other clothing  for men, also.

PLEASE KEEP THE FOLLOWING INDIVIDUALS
 IN YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS:
Ruth's sister, Laurel, Ruth's mother;  Louise's uncle; Kevin; Illean's brother, Bill, and Lorna's mother.

We continue to wish them all well and keep them in our prayers.

It is our intention to remember all who are ill, lost a loved one or congratulate members and their families when  achievements are

made.  However, you must let Ruth know so mention can be made in the Newsletter.
