PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:

Dear Sisters:

Now that the summer is “unofficially” here with Memorial Day, I wonder where the months went from Sept. ‘05 – June ’06. I feel that much has been accomplished, including hosting meetings with various guest speakers, a Christmas afternoon dinner, Black History Month Program, the Annual Open House where five scholarships were awarded to women attending college while raising families, and on June 4, our recognition of a local woman and scholarship fund raiser at the Holiday Inn of East Windsor (formerly the “Ramada Inn”). The name change was effective May 24. Our final affair is the awarding of two scholarships/book awards to Hightstown High School students on June 14th at their Awards Night..

After all of these activities, we need a well deserved rest.

I thank you for working on the “Woman of the Year” event, with special thanks to Ruth who worked tirelessly, Shirley for making many trips to the P.O. and bank and to Louise and Illean for their help, too. Thanks also to Liston and Marty for always being there to help whenever necessary.

Special thanks to these individuals who made a special contribution to our scholarship fund: George, Marcia, Ann C., Walter, and Niambi.

The fundraiser turned out quite well and Joan thanked us for a wonderful time. Details of the affair will be shared at the June 13th meeting.  You can see pictures on our web page, thanks to Liston.

Do enjoy your summer and have safe travels wherever your adventures may take you.

Joyce

TIPS

Refrigerator Deodorizer:

These tried-and-true methods work:

Put a box of baking soda into the refrigerator or put the baking soda into a plastic margarine tub and poke several holes in the lid and change it at least every 3 months. When you do, pour it down the sink to freshen it or pour it on a wet sponge and wipe out the inside of the refrigerator for extra cleaning. (Note: Do not recycle the baking soda from the refrigerator for use in recipes because the absorbed odors would be transferred to the food.).

- Place lemon or lime slices on small dishes and put on different shelves.

- Wipe out refrigerator walls with white household vinegar.

- If you are moving or putting a refrigerator in storage for a short time, place socks filled with dry coffee grounds or activated charcoal to prevent musty odors.

CLOTHING COLLECTION
Clothing (in good condition and clean, for working women) are always needed by the Urban Women's Center, 1201 W. State St., Trenton. Contact: Dir., Doris Williams (609) 989-1925) and Dress for Success, (also known as Suitably Dressed), 640 S. Broad St., Trenton (contact Mary - 989-6639 - from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.; Mon - Fri). These organizations assist women who are returning to work after a lengthy absence, and do not

have and do not have the proper attire for work. They also need shoes and handbags. Thank you for your help in this matter. Your donations will be greatly appreciated. If you have large donations, it would be best to contact these agencies and arrange for drop off and to find out if they have the space for large donations. They can use suits and other clothing for men, also.
