PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:
Dear Sisters:

Another Holiday Season is fast approaching and as it gets closer, it is my hope that we all take some time to remember the real reason we celebrate the season.  At this time, it gives me a great deal of pleasure to send Holiday Greetings to each of you, your family and other loved ones.  I for one am grateful for this past year.

Please pray for and remember our young men and women who are serving in the armed forces, and especially those in the Middle East.  A safe journey back home is wished for all.  Let's not forget the innocent people of the Middle East who are also suffering.

This year has been a very busy time for us.  We've had many guest speakers, had our Annual Open House and our "Woman of the Year" Luncheon, which is our scholar-ship fundraiser.

We have distributed a total of 7 scholarships/book awards (5 to women attending college and 2 to 2006 high school graduates).  We thank all our supporters as we couldn't do this without their help.

I thank members of the Network for their continued support.  I hope you are all ready for a relaxing few hours on Dec. 2, with "Tea" at ETS's  Chauncey Conference Center.  Don't forget to bring canned goods and/or toiletry for donations.

Remember, we won't have a regular monthly meeting on Dec. 12, but we will have our Steering Committee Meeting on Dec. 5 at the Twin Rivers Library.

Have a blessed, safe and Happy Holiday Season.

Blessings,

Joyce

TIPS

Care of Leather Boots:

To prevent winter salt or chemical stains, along with water and snow, treat boots with a commercial protect-all, or water-and stain-repellent spray before you wear them for the first time.  If they get stained, use specially made products, available at shoe-repair shops or in supermarkets.

Some Things to Think About
  1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

  2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

  3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

  1. Don't take yourself so seriously.  No one else does.

  2. Pay off your credit cards every month.

  3. You don't have to win every argument.  Agree to disagree.

PLEASE KEEP THE FOLLOWING INDIVIDUALS
 IN YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS:
Liston is re-cooperating from his last eye operation.  We wish him a speedy recovery!

We also send well wishes to  the following:  Louise's uncle, Kevin; Illean's brother, Bill; and Lorna's mother.

Ruth's sister, Laurel is doing well- thanks

for your prayers and good wishes.

It is our intention to remember all who are ill, lost a loved one or congratulate members and their families when achievements are made. However, you must let Ruth know so mention can be made in the Newsletter.

OTHER COMMUNITY INFORMATION

Better Beginnings celebrating 40 years of service

Better Beginnings is celebrating its 40th year of service to the community in a BIG way.

It will start on December 3, 2006 with a "Day of Caring", and culminating with the Shining Star Gala on March 24, 2007.

Appropriately, it is the business community that is initiating the "Day of Caring" since business and industry also benefit from a workforce that has available child care.  Businesses and organizations in Hightstown will be offering a variety of opportunities to participate.  For example, Rose Gallina, proprietor of "A Bit of N.Y.C. & more", a gift shop on Main Street, in Hightstown, will open her shop as a fundraiser for Better Beginnings.  Ten percent of any sales will go to Better Beginnings, but if more than 50
customers shop and buy, the percentage will increase to 20%.  Other stores, organizations and individuals may
  • sell selected items with 100% going to Better Beginnings;

  • place a collection can for Better Beginnings on counter;

  • sell food and/or other consum-ables, with ??% going to Better Beginnings;

  • volunteer at Better Beginnings;

  • assist with this and other special events;

  • run a raffle for Better Beginnings;

  • make a direct contribution to Better Beginnings;

  • display art work of the young students;

  • offer information about Better Beginnings;

  • provide a needed service to the center;

  • provide needed materials and goods to Better Beginnings;

  • become a Charity Ball sponsor;

  • donate items for auction at the Charity Ball;

  • take an ad in the Charity Ball program which will also appear in the book for other events, including Graduation.

Greater Goods Thrift Store

The Greater Goods Thrift Store has opened in their new location at 413 Mercer Street (Rt. 33), Hightstown, NJ (Lucas Electric building).

Greater Goods Thrift Store will sell high-quality donated clothing and household items. This project recycles community resources in a number of ways: by accepting donations (and reducing the waste of disposing of useable items), the thrift store will meet a critical need for affordable clothing, furniture, and household goods. Proceeds from all sales will fund family support programs and community partnerships that benefit families in the Hightstown-East Windsor area.
