PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:

Dear Sisters:

The busy Holiday Season is finally here and it is hard not to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of shopping, food preparation, gift-wrapping and partying.  Let’s not forget those who are less fortunate.  Take time to truly enjoy family and friends and remember the real reason we celebrate Christmas.

I thank everyone who joined us for the Tea at “The Cookie Cottage”, a very unique and relaxing place.  The sandwiches and pastry were delicious.  Some of the ladies even did a little shopping right on the premises.  Thanks again to Ruth who came to our rescue in finding the “Cottage” after ETS’s Chauncey Center cancelled Teas for a few weeks due to weddings on their premises.

We are all looking forward to our Holiday celebration at my home on Sunday, December 11, at 4 p.m.

Please remember to bring your gift bags (male or female) containing toiletries, which will be donated to Crisis Ministries for distribution to needy individuals.

The Katrina evacuees, who are in the Trenton area, still need our help.  Trinity Episcopal Church indicated they need cereals, can foods, detergents, paper products and linens, which need not be new, but in good condition and clean.  I will collect anything you can donate and get it to Trenton.  Let me know if you have anything to donate, and I will gladly arrange to pick up.  Thanks to those who have made a donation.

For the New Year, put on your thinking cap as to how we can improve CJNBW and also  attract new members.

Have a wonderful and blessed Holiday Season.

Joyce

TIPS

Luggage:  If your suitcase has been stored away and has a musty odor, try these odor solutions:

  • Open up and put outside in the sun.  Mother Nature just may do the trick.

  • Put a shallow box filled with cat-box deodorizer into the suitcase and shut  the lid.  Let it sit for a day or two.

  • Place a fabric-softener sheet or several wrapped bars of fragrant soap inside, close and let sit for a couple of days.

  • Stuff with crumpled newspaper to absorb odor.  Replace with fresh newspaper every other day until smell is gone.

  • Fill a small container, such as a cleaned-out plastic margarine tub, with activated charcoal (found in pet stores).  Poke holes in lid and cover. Leave in suitcase and close.

GET WELL

We are glad to know that Jessica is feeling better.
CLOTHING COLLECTION
Clothing (in good condition and clean, for working women) are always needed by the Urban Women's Center, 1201 W. State St., Trenton.  Contact: Dir., Doris Williams (609) 989-1925) and Dress for Success, (also known as Suitably Dressed), 640 S. Broad St., Trenton (contact Mary - 989-6639 - from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.; Mon - Fri).  These organizations assist women who are returning to work after a lengthy absence, and do not have and do

not have the proper attire for work.  They also need shoes and handbags.  Thank you for your help in this matter.  Your donations will be greatly appreciated.

If you have large donations, it would be best to contact these agencies and arrange for drop off and to find out if they have the space for large donations. They can use suits and other clothing  for men, also.

HELP KATRINA EVACUEES IN OUR AREA

The Trinity Episcopal Cathedral's Outreach Commission is still working with the Rev. Alice Parker of Lifeline Emergency Shelter to help some 23 evacuee family members in the Trenton area.  I have received a few donations, and I am waiting for others to come through as promised.  (See my President's Letter.)  Please call me and/or bring items to the Steering Committee meeting on Dec. 6.  Thanks.    (Joyce)
