***PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:***
My dear Sisters: The warmer weather approaches, and we all look forward to our now annual spring affair, CJNBW’s celebration of the life and work of a distinguished member of our community. This year, the event will take place on Sunday May 2^nd at the Ramada Inn, Hightstown – from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.. We are pleased this year to honor Ms. Shirley Satterfield, a remarkable and humble woman with whom many of us in the Network are familiar, both as friend to CJNBW and as guidance counselor to many successful graduates of the Hightstown and Princeton high schools. Ms. Satterfield, a twice retired counselor from the Princeton School District, has been a faithful youth advocate, not only for Princeton students, but for many Hightstown High School students in an earlier position, and for the young people of her church, the Witherspoon Presbyterian Church. In her capacity as counselor in both school districts, Shirley Satterfield has assisted CJNBW in identifying high school graduates for our scholarships. Also, for years, Ms. Satterfield ensured that graduates and other young people participated in our Education Fairs, sometimes bringing them herself. When her name was mentioned at last month’s meeting, we were happily surprised to learn that Shirley has been involved in yet another initiative - to offer spiritual support to incarcerated youths. As we began the process of inviting Ms. Satterfield’s friends and colleagues to the event, we learned of so many more of her other worthy and charitable involvements!		Ruth and Joyce have sent you copies of the flyer invitation for May 2^nd. If you have not gotten your flyers, please contact either Joyce or Ruth. If you need more, feel free to copy one of those. The cost per person is $40.00, which includes a three course meal, networking, and entertainment. Linda reports that the number of those who have indicated their plans to attend the May 2^nd event is growing so that Shirley and Joyce have had to negotiate for a larger room at the Ramada. Let us fill that room as the money made from the affair goes towards our scholarships! Thank you, Illean for last month’s Women’s Month presentation, and Louise for the beautiful decorations. We had quite a turnout, including several men. I love spring and am always hopeful that my window boxes, deck and garden will be beautiful each year, but am not always as successful as I would like. That is why I am excited about our April Meeting program, Spring Gardening Tips. In keeping with our theme this year – “home and garden,” Ruth, herself a gardener, is spearheading this month’s presentation. Please come out and bring a friend as this promises to be a timely, educational and entertaining presentation. Louise will no doubt make Easter and Spring blossom in the Library for the April meeting – you don’t want to miss this. Always, Noreen Lois

IMPORTANT DATES

Tues., April 6- 7:30 p.m. - Steering Committee Meeting at Twin Rivers Library, Abbington Dr., Twin Rivers (443-1880).

Tues., April 13 - 7:30 p.m. - Regular Monthly Meeting at Hickory Corner Rd Library, 138 Hickory Corner Rd., E. Windsor (448-1332). The meeting is open to anyone, including those interested in joining the CJNetwork. In keeping with the arrival of the Spring planting season, we are pleased to have as guests, John and Sue Specca, the owners of "Corner-Copia" located at the corner of Route 535 (Old Trenton Rd.) and Rte 571 (Princeton-Hights Rd.). They will be sharing gardening tips (how to start and maintain your garden). A second guest will be Ms. Barbara Bromley of the Rutgers Extension Program who will answer questions on other aspects of gardening (insects and bugs and lawn and garden care). This is most timely. Please bring your friends. Refreshments will be provided by Ruth.

Sunday, May 2 - 3p.m. - 6 p.m.- Fourth Annual Recognition and Scholarship Fund Raiser at the Ramada Inn, Monmouth St., Hightstown, NJ - which will be a luncheon. This year's honoree is Shirley Satterfield. The food choice is Salmon or Chicken Francaise. Please let us know your choice in advance. We plan to start the program promptly as there is a lot to cover, so tell family and friends to be on time.

Linda has been doing a fantastic job contacting members of Shirley's church.

The Book Club (named "Reading Between the Lines") will meet on Friday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. at Joyce's home. The book we will be reading and discussing is "The Five People you Meet in Heaven", by Mitch Albom. Please be sure to let Joyce know if you plan to attend, so she can be ready for us. We'd love to have you there.

Steering Committee Corner This Committee is made up of the officers of the Network. We meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Twin Rivers Library, 276 Abbington Dr., E. Windsor, NJ., (609-443-1880). Any member can attend these meetings, if so desired.

The Woman of the Year program, Sunday, May 2, will be a luncheon this year, to be held at the Ramada Inn on Monmouth St., Hightstown. Plans were firmed up for the 2nd.

GRADUATION CONGRATULATIONS

Malene, daughter of Hibbert and Noreen, will graduate from the University of Pa. Law School with a J.D. Degree. We are so proud and send our best wishes to daughter and parents.

TIPS

Deodorize Garbage Cans: To prevent odors, place a fabric-softener sheet or perfume sample strip into the bottom of the can before you put the plastic garbage bag inside.

CLOTHING COLLECTION

Clothing (in good condition and clean, for working women) are always needed by the Urban Women's Center, 1201 W. State St., Trenton. Contact: Dir., Doris Williams (609) 989-1925) and Dress for Success, (also known as Suitably Dressed), 640 S. Broad St., Trenton (contact Mary - 989-6639 - from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.; Mon - Fri). These organizations assist women who are returning to work and do not have the proper attire for work. They also need shoes and handbags. Thank you for your help in this matter. Your donations will be greatly appreciated. If you have large donations, it would be best to contact these agencies and arrange for drop off and to find out if they have the space for large donations. They can use suits and other clothing for men, also.

PLEASE KEEP THE FOLLOWING INDIVIDUALS IN YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS: Ruth's sister, Laurel, the mothers of Ruth, Marcia and Lorna, and Shirley and Louise's uncles.

It is our intention to remember all who are ill, lost a loved one or congratulate members and their families when achievements are made. However, you must let Joyce know so mention can be made in the Newsletter.
