President's Message
Dear Members and Friends:

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Here's hoping that your resolutions for 2002 will all be achieved.  Best wishes for good health, successful careers, and much happiness in your personal lives!

Let us each pledge to make this earth a better place, in any way that we can.  Let us pull together to keep CJNBW members apprised of current activities, events, and issues that will influence Black women psychologically, socially, and economically.  In short, let us support each other in 2002.

I would like to thank all the members who attended the Holiday Tea on Dec. 16th.  A BIG thank you to Ms. Noreen Lois Duncan, our charming host!  We all had a wonderful time catching up with each other.  Also special thanks to the members who could not attend but were still able to provide refreshments for the party and gift packages for the Crisis Ministry.

I look forward to our next general meeting on January 8th.  See you then!

Sincerely,
Ruth Rainford Timins, President

OTHER IMPORTANT  NOTES
The Book Club, now named,  "Reading Between the Lines" has resumed.  The next meeting is Friday, Jan. 18 - 7:30 p.m.  This meeting will be held at Joyce Abbott's.  If you don't know how to get there, please call Joyce (448-4511).  As stated in last month's Newsletter, we will be reading "Honey Hush" by Flo Kennedy.  Each person attending should read 2 chapters for discussion.  To date, Marsha has chosen Chapters 6 & 7.  Please inform Joyce or Marsha (426-4117) which chapters you will read so we don't all read the same chapters.  Also, let us know if you plan to attend, as we'd love to have you with us.

Please bring your suggestions for future books

Steering Committee Corner
At the meeting on 11/5/01 discussion continued on the awarding of scholarships to women in college or re-entering.  One Book Award was given to Miranda Roach a student to the College of NJ.  Another name, Linda Choice, was submitted by MCCC, however,
Noreen Duncan (contact person) was unable to get in touch with Ms. Choice.  Her name will be put in the pool for next year.  Ms. Duncan will again seek the assistance of the 3 local colleges to get names of potential candidates.  CJNBW members remember to submit names also.

We plan to interview the candidates so we can get to know them a little bit before awarding scholarships.

At the present time, the criteria for Awards are:  Mature, returning women students; preferably African American; demonstrated need; full-time status, and willing to be mentored by the CJNBW during the course of the year.

Steering Committee Corner, (Continued)

Alternative Meeting Location (when needed) - Beverly Hobbs, who is a Realtor at GMAC (General Motors Acceptance Corp.) advised us that we can use their office on Princeton Hightstown Rd.  Of course, we would notify them in advance.  Thanks, Beverly.

CONDOLENCES

Hattie Blanchard lost her sister, Deborah Lovelace, last month.  We send our sincerest condolences to the family.  Hattie wishes to thank all members for their phone calls, cards, etc. and for caring.  It's so hard to lose a loved one.

DUES

If not already paid, please contact our Treasurer, Shirley Vassall.

THANK YOU

We wish to thank all members who remembered to bring personal item gift bags on 12/16 for donation to the Crisis Ministry.  They distribute such items to the homeless in motels.  Your generosity is very much appreciated.

TIPS
Postage Stamps - When stuck together, don't soak, but put in the freezer and they will come apart.

Corrosion Prevention - Put a piece of charcoal in tool box to prevent corroded tools.

BEST WISHES & CONTINUED Good Health TO:    Arlene Banks, Louise Smith and Gloria Daniels; the mothers of Marcia Duhart, Lorna Jones, Louise Smith, Joan Tomlin, and Shirley Vassall's  mother-in-law.

GET WELL:   Louise Smith is now back at home and we are so happy to report this good news.  She continues to recover and we wish her the best.

Gloria Daniels is still at home and visits are welcomed.  She has a very supportive family and so many dedicated friends including many co-workers.  We continue to wish the best to Gloria and her family.

Ruth Timins' mother is also doing well after her surgery and we trust she continues to improve.  Also, remember Ruth's daughter, Nicole.

It is our intention to remember all who are ill, lost a loved one or congratulate members and their families when achievements are made.  However, you must let Joyce Abbott (448-4511 ) know so mention can be made in the Newsletter.
