President's Message
| Dear Members and Friends,
I hope that you all had a wonderful summer and had a chance to take a vacation and enjoy some well deserved time off from your regular routines. As I start a new term as president of CJNBW, I look forward to meeting many new friends and exploring new opportunities for the organization. But I'm equally eager to maintain the network's traditions and programs that you have supported so generously over the years. The Steering Committee is preparing an interesting schedule of events and speakers, and details are provided elsewhere in this newsletter. Of particular interest are the following: 1) Open House, Sunday, Oct. 14, 3-6 p.m. Twin Rivers Community Room. Speaker: Carine Toussaint-Ramos. Topic: Corinne's voyage. |
2) Book awards will be presented to three
local women at Open House.
3) Beverly Hobbs is compiling information regarding resources within
the CJNBW membership.
Congratulations to other members who have recently retired (or seriously contemplating it). Please give me a call if you suddenly have a few free hours and would like to join me to volunteer for some worthy cause. Sincerely,
|

The Steering Committee will be hosting this meeting. Sunday, October 14, - 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. - Open House at Twin Rivers Community Room, 276 Abbington Drive, E. Wed., Sept. 26, 2001 - 7:30 p.m. - The Book Club, with a tentative name
of "Reading Between the Lines" will resume. The first meeting
will be held at Marcia Duhart's, 210 Mill Run Court, Hightstown, NJ (609)
426-4117. This first meeting is to discuss how we wish to proceed
with the Book Club. Bring your suggestions regarding books you'd
like us to read so we can make a list for the year. We will also
discuss how many times we should meet for the year and where. Please let
Marcia know you are coming. |
A meeting was held on 8/21 at Ruth's home. Here are highlights of our discussions: 1. It was suggested that since the full criteria for scholarships have not been completed to date, we give 3 Book Awards of $250 each (to women from 3 colleges). Noreen Lois Duncan is working with 3 colleges to get names. Then starting 6/02, scholarships will be awarded. 2. Establish a mentoring program to assist the scholarship recipients. Since we have many resources within the Network, which could benefit these ladies, Beverly Hobbs will be working on a resource list, so you will be hearing from Beverly. 3. Members are asked to think of another individual we can honor next year (as we did Gloria Daniels in 2001). Bring your suggestions. The possible date is April, 2002. 4. Possibility of a "Holiday Tea" on 12/16/01 in lieu of a party. Lois Duncan has volunteered her home. 5. Guest speaker for our Nov. meeting will be either Jocelyn Bines of Habitat for Humanity or Sally Osmer, Director of Crisis Ministries whose Agency helps the community in numerous ways. |
| RETIRED: Most recently two members have left the work force, namely, Ruth Rainford Timins and Joan Tomlin. We do wish these ladies the very best as they start a new phase in their lives. From all indications, they will be just as busy as Illean Fussell and Marcia Duhart who retired previously. Enjoy the good life, ladies!!! |
| SCHOLARSHIP - We will be working on the new scholarship
requirements. As you know, we will be assisting women returning to
school. Regina, Beverly and Lois volunteered to serve on the scholarship
committee. This committee will determine the criteria for the award
and report to the membership at a later date.
See "Steering Committee Corner" for more information. |
| TIPS: Window Cleaning Solution
- The best mixture for cleaning windows is 1/2 cup of amonia, 1 cup of
white vinegar, and 2 tbs. of cornstarch in a bucket of warm water.
For Cold Weather Window Cleaning, add 1/2 cup of rubbing
alcohol to the above mixture on cold days to present ice from forming on
your windows.
Safety Tip - Jot down the name of your nearest relative, a trusted neighbor, and your physician on a card, and tape it to the sun visor or your car. It may be helpful in an emergency. |

| CONDOLENCES -
We offer our sincere sympathies to the family of Dr. Lawrence Houston, who passed in late August. Dr. Houston held several workshops for our Education Fair and never refused to give of his time to our efforts to help young people. Frances Switzer was a good friend of Dr. Houston and was very helpful to Dr. Houston and his family during his illness. Our prayers are with his family. |
