Gloria Jean Martin married Walter Thomas
Daniels, Jr in April 10, 1971. To this union a daughter was born in May
of 1972. The family relocated to East Windsor Township the fall of 1976,
at which time, Gloria made an abiding impression on this community.
Her contributions to the community were given, with the same zeal, and
energy as she gave to her students. She continued her work in the Christian
community by joining the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Hightstown, New Jersey
in May 1983. As a member she served as the Director of the Youth
Gloria received many awards and recognitions for her contributions to the community. To name a few: The Better Beginnings Shining Star Award for Community Service in 1994 for outstanding service; she was a founding member, and past president of the Central Jersey Network of Black Women (CJNBW); she was a founding member, and past president of the Advocates for Quality Education (AQE) in the East Windsor School District; and served as a member on the East Windsor Township Juvenile Conference Committee. Gloria retired after twenty-five years as an educator in the New Brunswick School District. Her presence was well known in the McKinley Community School. She encouraged and inspired her students to aim high and reach for the stars. As a science Technology Teacher, Head Teacher of the Talented And Gifted Program (TAG) and as a Science Consultant, she molded the future of our world. Her exemplary work and guidance with the students was recognized when she became a 2000 recipient of the Governor's Teacher Recognition Award from the New Brunswick School District. These involvements, along with her creative teaching style reflect Gloria's passion, enthusiasm, dedication and love of teaching, which she generously shared with the community at large. She leaves to mourn her passing a number of
loved ones. Her husband of 30 years, Walter T. Daniels, Jr of East Windsor,
NJ; daughter, Niambi Daniels; mother, Helen Crawford of East Windsor, NJ;
father, Thomas Mentho Martin of Tampa, FL; sister, Cynthia Washington of
East Windsor, NJ; brother, Taylor Washington of Pittsburg, PA; sister-in-law,
FanNell Gonzalez of Alexandria, VA; nephew, Vincente Gonzalez of Alexandria,
VA; nephew, Alonzo Gonzalez of Santa Cruz, CA; uncle, Raymond Gilmore of
Pittsburg, PA; aunt, Dorothy Banks of Pittsburg, PA; special nephew, the
late Richard Ahmad Washington, and a host of cousins, other relatives,
and friends.
