Recreational Trails

·         Zaitz Park Trail- Bruce gave an update on the preparation of the Recreational Trail Grant application for the Zaitz Park Woodland Trail which is due December 15th.  Bruce passed out the latest draft and reviewed the map of the trail plans.  It was suggested that proximity to schools and the Renaissance age-restricted housing development be emphasized, as well as the approval of the Southfield bikelane grant which will allow residents to bike to Zaitz Park and the placement of bicycle racks at the trailhead.  Ken C. has obtained letters of support from Alan Hershey of the Central Jersey Trails Association and Linda Mead of the D&R Greenway Land Trust.  Arnold is working with Rush Holt’s office to obtain a letter of support.  Alison successfully shepherded a resolution in favor of the application through Town Council.

·         Millstone River Trail- Ken C. gave an update on the plans for implementing the Millstone River Preserve Trail.  Construction of the gravel parking area on Millstone Road will begin later this month, and a sign for the entrance to the parking area is being prepared for the Preserve listing the various stakeholders.  As soon as the parking lot is in place, a trail breaking ceremony will be planned and the first trail will be constructed.  A press release will need to be written and we will need to solicit volunteers for the trail building.
