Meeting with Mayor January 8, 2003

Dan gave the Mayor a presentation following the agenda. The Mayor was pleased with our goals and is willing to support the group as it goes forward. In particular we asked for and got support to help build awareness, support in looking for sponsors and operational support. The Mayor indicated that the current state of the township budget was tight and he did not see funds available at this time.

He agreed that this would be a great event to run on an annual basis. He will be contacting Chief Pica to help coordinate the safety and security needed. The Mayor brought in Bob Harry as Human Services Manager and asked that he bring Ken Jacobs, head of Recreation, in to help us with this program.

Discussion changed to providing resources.

The Mayor also is looking at bringing in some high school students as volunteers to help run the program.

Ken Naglach suggested we contact the Boy Scouts as a potential source of volunteers, as well as Mike Heffler, a township resident who is active in the Freewheelers.

Mention was made of the Greater Mercer TMA and the county map highlighting roads good for riding. Peter Bilton of that group is already on the Bike/Ped Committee.
