Princeton Arts Review: Winter 1998

This Tribe

by Clifford Paul Fetters

Instead of dahlias and diamonds

weeds and gravel. Instead

of sunlight condemned dust,

instead of robin the wrecking crane.

You Heaven Guys, forgive the ones

who demand stars and expect stone

order paradise and dip

their cups in ice water

preparing to swallow hell.
