Rev. Martin Luther King Day of Service Event at West Windsor Arts Council

City— West Windsor, New Jersey — Calling all families to join in a Day of Service! Monday, January 21, 2019 is the day, we as a country, honor the legacy of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. To show respect and honor this American activist and leader who, through his strength, respect and courage showed his countrymen how to advance civil rights through civil disobedience and non-violent activism, the West Windsor Human Relations Council is partnering with the West Windsor Arts Council to hold A DAY OF SERVICE. Joining forces to help those in our communities we are asking for donated items for three community groups. The three Not for Profit Service Partners are: 1. Send Hunger Packing West Windsor-Plainsboro a program of Mercer Street Friends; 2. RISE Community Services; 3. Ryan’s Case for Smiles.

The Day of Service will feature speakers, a book reading, projects including putting together bags for use in the SHuP WW-P program, making pillowcase bags for Ryan’s Case for Smiles and other entertainment. The event will take place at the West Windsor Art’s Council located at 952 Alexander Road, West Windsor, NJ. Items for the Send Hunger Packing Program West Windsor-Plainsboro (SHuP WW-P) are: Shelf Stabilized milk 1% or 2% (ex. Parmalat), single serving cereal bowls or boxes, Tuna with crackers or pouches, microwavable pasta or soups, peanut butter to go, grape jelly in plastic containers, single serve fruit, granola bars, pudding cups. SHuP WW-P provides weekend food going home in backpacks to children in our WW-P District who, having weekday breakfasts and lunches at school, may lack sufficient food on weekends coming to school hungry on Monday.

RISE Community Organization provides needed services to the community. At this time, RISE clients are in need of NEW pajamas, and children’s books. Ryan’s Case for Smiles an organization helping hospitalized children seeks toothbrushes and toothpaste for placement in pillowcases for distribution to local hospitals.

Items can be dropped off at the Art’s Council building: M-F 10-6 or Sat. 10-4. Additionally, SHuP WW-P will set up a table at the West Windsor McCaffrey’s Southfield Shopping Center West Windsor on Saturday, January 12 AND Sunday, January 13 as well as at the West Windsor Farmer’s Market held at the Windsor Athletic Club, 99 Clarksville Road, West Windsor, NJ Saturday, January 19 from 10 am to 12 noon.

Donate goods in advance as set out above or bring them with you on Monday, January 21 from 10 am to 2 pm.
