Princeton Festival Launches 15th Annual Piano Competition Online; Entries Accepted through April 19

PRINCETON, NJ (January 7, 2021) – The online Princeton Festival 15th annual piano competition is now open to pianists from around the world, with an entry deadline of April 19, 2021. Full information and an entry application is available at

To enter the competition, artists must submit a video of themselves performing a designated piece of music. Participants compete for cash prizes and certificates, plus the Richard Tang Yuk award, named for the Festival’s founding Artistic Director, given to the best performer overall.

The professionally adjudicated competition is organized into seven categories:

·         Four age categories for solo performers from 6 to 18 years old.

·         Open Class I for soloists and Piano Four-Hands for all competitors up to 25 years old

·         Open Class II, new for 2021, for solo professionals and lifelong amateurs 26 or older

“Last year’s competition drew more than 240 outstanding pianists from 22 US states and 11 foreign countries,” said Gregory Geehern, the Festival’s Acting Artistic Director. “This year we’re offering artists more diverse ways to showcase their talent through a broader range of music.

“In addition to staple pieces from great names like Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, our repertoire includes music by modern classical composers such as Bartók, Ligeti, and Takemitsu; pieces written by Clara Schumann, Cécile Chaminade, Amy Beach, and other women; and selections by Black composers such as Florence Price and William Grant Still.

“We look forward to an exciting and rewarding event for everyone involved.”

Winners in all categories will be announced after the Finalists’ Concert, which will stream online on June 6.
