Join us on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 8:30 am to 11:30 am for the 7th annual Delaware River Cleanup
Help to keep Our River clean and pristine!
Hunterdon and Mercer Counties, NJ - September 21, 2024 – The Delaware River Greenway Partnership (DRGP) is excited to announce a collaborative river cleanup event on September 21, 2024. In partnership with the NJ Clean Communities programs in Hunterdon and Mercer Counties and the NJ Park Service, we are coming together to tackle the litter along the shores of our Wild and Scenic Delaware River.
This year’s cleanup will cover twenty areas along the river, stretching from the Delaware Water Gap, NJ, to Duck Island at the Abbott Marshlands in Hamilton. Volunteers will remove trash from along the shoreline, or join an on-water cleanup at the Giving Pond in Bucks County.
In 2023, our dedicated volunteers removed an impressive 9 tons of debris from 18 locations. The commitment and hard work of our community members made a significant impact on preserving the beauty and health of our river. Among the odd finds from past cleanups was a hot tub discovered in the woods, highlighting the diverse and sometimes surprising nature of the debris.
We invite everyone to join us in this vital effort to protect and preserve our natural environment. Individuals and groups of all ages (with adult supervision) are welcome. Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or a first-timer, your help is invaluable in keeping the Delaware River a clean and beautiful resource for all to enjoy.
The Delaware River Cleanup is held annually on International Coastal Cleanup Day, the third Saturday in September. “This cleanup effort goes above and beyond in tackling debris in and around the Delaware River,” said JoAnn Gemenden, Executive Director of the NJ Clean Communities Council. “I have watched this program grow in size and effort each year and commend all the state, county, and local agencies who work together to make a difference. This effort signifies what the International Coastal Cleanup is all about. Kudos to all of the volunteers and families who take the time to make a real impact in cleaning up their local waterways.”
