About Us
55PLUS is an organization which provides a venue for interested persons to interact socially, attend lectures on interesting topics, and become involved in a variety of community activities.  It meets twice a month, normally on the first and third Thursdays, except during the summer.  55PLUS was first organized in 1986 as a non-sectarian group to promote social contacts and friendships among men who were either retired or had flexible working hours.  Since then, it has grown markedly and evolved to become much more inclusive.  We remain non-sectarian and welcome all attendees at our functions, regardless of gender, age, race or religious affiliation.  The organization has a unique structure in that there are no officers, elected or otherwise, no board, no dues, and no formal membership.  There are a large group of volunteers who perform a wide variety of tasks to make the organization run smoothly.
CURRENTLY, DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS EPIDEMIC, ALL OUR MEETINGS ARE CONDUCTED VIA ZOOM, OVER THE INTERNET.

A volunteer planning group called "The Honchos" meets occasionally to find interesting speakers, appoint contact persons to invite speakers, discuss any problems that arise, and arrange field trips.  All are welcome at Honcho meetings, which normally occur in January and June.  Other volunteers maintain the membership database, mail meeting notices, write and mail publicity releases, maintain our web site and arrange for meeting sites and other activities.  If you would like to help, please contact our Head Honcho Bob Robinson (rgr0813@aol.com).

Two members serve as Program Directors.  They are Al Friedes (aldemar.friedes@att.net; 732-257-5158) and Ed Beenstock (ebeenstock@outlook.com; 732-254-0186).  If you have ideas for speakers please contact either of them.
