PPPL's Science on Saturday Lecture Series

PPPL physicist Florian Laggner, “Diagnosing Fusion Plasmas: How to Perform Measurements in a 100-Million Degree Environment”

Other talks will focus on a variety of topics, including plasma physics, ocean robotics, and auroras. The lectures will be offered live online for the third year and will be held at 9:30 a.m. weekly through March 12. (There is no lecture on Feb. 19 due to the Department of Energy's Science Bowl.) You must register online one time to get a link to attend all the lectures.

Tap the Sugar Maples, Howell Farm

Hundreds of sugar maple trees line the banks of Moore's Creek and the nearby woods at the foot of Baldpate Mountain...and in February farmers begin the annual work of sap collection and maple syrup production. The first step takes place in the sugar bush, and at 10:30, 11:00, 11:30, 12:00, 12:30, 1:00, 1:30, 2:00, 2:30, and 3:00, visitors can join Howell Farm’s expert tree-tappers for a lesson in how to tap a backyard maple tree and make syrup at home. Demonstrations are limited to 25 participants, so register early to reserve your space! Outside activities include firewood cutting, rail splitting and, if conditions permit, a continuation of ice harvesting operations.

H2O Quest: Groundhog Day - The Watershed

Groundhog day is a curious mix of fact and fiction. Learn the difference as you make your way around the Watershed Reserve in search of clues to find Wally the Woodchuck. This program is part treasure hunt, part nature hike and plenty of imaginative fun. Meet the naturalists, try your hand at chucking wood with a catapult or trebuchet, and search for groundhog holes on this festive winter morning. Each group will remain together, practicing social distancing. Dress for the weather and wear your hiking boots as we celebrate winter and look forward to the return of spring. Patches are available for purchase in the gift shop on the day of the program.

Ages 5 and up. This is an in-person program, adult attendance required.

Learn the “love language” of flowers, enjoy an illustrated powerpoint on Victorian pressed flowers, and create Valentines of your own special design suitable for framing. All pressed flowers (many from Morven’s historic gardens), materials, and art instruction provided. No previous experience required and space is limited.

Salsa Sensation Dance, Central Jersey Dance Society

Central Jersey Dance Society presents our Salsa Sensation Dance: 7:00pm-8:30pm: Bachata and Salsa lessons (beginner and intermediate) taught by our talented instructor Michael Andino.

8:30pm-11:00pm: Open dancing to Latin dance music by DJ Carlos Hendricks.
