Birding Field Trip, Washington Crossing Audubon Society

Join Washington Crossing Audubon Society from 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 6 for a guided walk led by Brad Merritt and Sharyn Magee to observe spring songbird migrants at Garret Mountain Reservation, a Passaic County Park located just south of Paterson, NJ. We may also visit the adjacent Rifle Camp Park. Bring a lunch.

Directions: Take I-287 to I-80. Go east to exit 56A (Squirrelwood Road). Go to the stop sign and turn right on Rifle Camp Road. Go up the hill about 0.5 miles to Mountain Ave., which comes in from the left. Turn left on Mountain Ave. (look for an army tank and the reservoir on the left) and go 0.3 miles to the entrance to Garret Mountain Reservation. Bilingual Nature Walk of D&R Canal

The Delaware & Raritan Canal Watch will hold a free bilingual (Spanish/English) nature walk along the Delaware & Raritan Canal on Saturday, May 6.

The 3.2-mile nature walk will explore the section of the canal park between Lock 11 in South Bound Brook and Demott Lane.  There will also be an opportunity for a shorter walk.

Meet at 10 a.m. at the Lock 11 parking lot, Canal Park, South Bound Brook, approximately across from the South Bound Brook Post Office (11 Madison St.).

The walk, which will be conducted in Spanish and English, will focus on identifying plants and wildlife along the canal.  Park Naturalist Stephanie Fox will lead the walk with interpretation in Spanish provided by Daniel Lima.
