Adriana Abizadeh, president of Catalyst Consulting Group, presents "Access: Capitalism, Land and Race."
Status quo redevelopment efforts exclude the community, do not build knowledge and capacity in the community, and extract value. The real estate market is a white dominant market. Capitalism prescribes individualism which makes collective ownership of real estate rare and challenging. In predominantly black and brown communities, folks are exploring and advancing models of ownership that combat capitalistic norms and prioritize the investments of white folks. We will discuss alternative ownership and how it advances economic wealth building for black and brown communities. Presented in partnership with Not In Our Town Princeton.
