Meeting, 55-Plus Club of Princeton

Thursday March 2, 2023
10:00 AM

The 55-Plus Club of Princeton will meet at 10 a.m., Thursday March 2, 2023, at the Jewish Center of Princeton, 435 Nassau Street, Princeton. Jennifer Mittelstadt, Professor of History at Rutgers University, will speak on "The Real Fight for Academic Freedom." This is a hybrid meeting (in-person & via Zoom). To join online, visit http://www.princetonol.com/groups/55plus. Meetings are free with a suggested donation of $5 (see website for payment options).

Free speech lies at the heart of academic freedom, many rightly argue, protecting both the rights of individual researchers and teachers as well as norms of democratic institutions and society. Yet a host of disturbing recent events suggest that we must define and defend academic freedom much more expansively. Jennifer Mittelstadt is historian of the twentieth-century United States at Rutgers University. She studied history as an undergraduate at Wesleyan University and received her masters and doctorate at the University of Michigan.
