MLK Celebration @Arts Council of Princeton

Monday January 16, 2023
9:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Join the Arts Council of Princeton as we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

We will begin the morning with remarks from our 2023 featured speaker, Tina Campt – noted Black feminist theorist of visual culture and contemporary art and Roger S. Berlind ’52 Professor in the Humanities at Princeton University – during a community bagel and coffee breakfast. Families are invited to pick up a copy of an updated limited-edition coloring book featuring prominent Black residents of Princeton from history, including accomplished business owners, politicians, educators and influential women, in addition to Martin Luther King Jr.’s visits to campus in the 1960s, designed in partnership with the Historical Society of Princeton, neighborhood historian Shirley Satterfield, and Princeton University Wintersession.

Help us help those in need: bring canned or boxed non-perishables for our food drive. All donations will benefit Princeton Nursery School, a non-profit organization providing a quality preschool education program and child care for families in need, providing a diverse environment and a broad array of support services.

Seventh Annual Martin Luther King Day of Service Concert, Trenton Music Makers

Monday January 16, 2023
6:00 PM

Capital Harmony Works, the home of Trenton Music Makers and Trenton Children's Chorus, announced today that the orchestra will again give a community concert in Princeton, in honor of Martin Luther King Day and the National Day of Service. The concert, following the growing tradition among El Sistema-inspired organizations throughout the United States, will take place on Monday, January 16 at 6:00pm, at Trinity Church Princeton.

Although in past years this concert was offered with free admission as a gift to the community, this year Capital Harmony Works is inviting the audience to lean into the holiday's significance as a day of service, by contributing non-perishable foods, or a monetary donation, for the food bank at Arm in Arm. Trinity Church has long been a supporter of both organizations, as local ministry partners.
