Monthly Meeting, 55 Plus Club

Thursday November 17, 2022
10:00 AM

The 55-Plus Club of Princeton will meet in person at the Jewish Center of Princeton (435 Nassau Street, Princeton), and via Zoom, at 10 a.m., Thursday November 17, 2022. Gregg Kallor, composer and pianist, will speak on "The Creation of a Frankenstein Opera." To join this meeting online, visit http://www.princetonol.com/groups/55plus and follow directions. Meetings are free with a suggested donation of $5 (see website for payment options).

Kallor will share his thoughts about the process of adapting Mary Shelley's heartbreaking novel, Frankenstein, into an opera (commissioned by Arizona Opera) — including writing the libretto and composing the music, setting text to music, collaborating with the cast and creative team, and the challenges and successes of composing an opera during a global lockdown. Gregg Kallor's music fuses the classical and jazz traditions he loves into a new, deeply personal language. Opera News calls Kallor "a rising star in the music world" with "a singular compositional voice." The New York Times writes: "At home in both jazz and classical forms, [Kallor] writes music of unaffected emotional directness."
