As the nation attempts to confront issues of racial injustice, environmental organizations like The Watershed Institute are facing an uncomfortable reality that people of color have not always felt welcome at the open spaces we manage and the programs we deliver. How can the environmental movement be more inclusive and engage people of all backgrounds? This is the featured topic of our 2021 Muriel Buttinger Lecture.
Carolyn Finney, Ph.D. is a leading voice on the intersection of race, identity and the natural world and is our guest speaker at this year's event. Dr. Finney is Scholar-in-Residence for Environmental Affairs at Middlebury College. She is a storyteller, author, and cultural geographer interested in identity, difference, creativity, and resilience.
