Inspired by the real-life 1925 Scopes Monkey Trial, an unassuming high school teacher finds himself at the center of a worldwide controversy. On a scorching hot day in the small, Bible-belt town of Hillsboro, biology teacher Bertram Cates stands accused. His crime? Teaching Darwin’s theory of evolution to his students. A powerful confrontation is about the ensue between characters based on William Jennings Bryan, who believes only what he reads in the Bible, and Clarence Darrow, who defends science and open intellectual inquiry.. This classic American drama is as timely today as it was when it opened in 1955 on Broadway.
