Screening, The Beaver Believers , Watershed Institute

Sunday May 5, 2019
1:00 PM

The Beaver Believers is a feature documentary that tells the urgent yet whimsical story of an unlikely cadre of activists - a biologist, a hydrologist, a botanist, an ecologist, a psychologist, and a hairdresser - who share a common vision: restoring the North American Beaver, the most industrious, ingenious, bucktoothed little engineer, to the watersheds of the American West. The Beaver Believers encourage us to embrace a new paradigm for managing our western lands, one that seeks to partner with the natural world rather than overpower it. As a keystone species, beaver enrich their ecosystems, creating the biodiversity, complexity, and resiliency our watersheds need to absorb the impacts of climate change. Beavers can show us the way and do much of the work for us, if only we can find the humility to trust the restorative power of nature and our own ability to play a positive role within it. Shot in 8 western states, Mexico, and Canada, through desert drought, raging wild fires, forceful floods, and wetland tranquility, this film will change the way you think about climate change and inspire you to take a bite out of the challenges we face, one stick at a time. (2019)

Art Exhibit Reception to Benefit HomeFront

Sunday May 5, 2019
1:00 PM

The Jewish Center Princeton, 435 Nassau Street, Princeton

A collection of artwork and poetry created by HomeFront Clients. The spacious ArtSpace studio is located at the heart of the new HomeFront Family Campus. Through this innovative therapeutic art program, the creative process becomes a tangible tool for self-expression, critical thinking and problem-solving that can transform the lives of the artists. Making art lets us step away from our lives for a moment. It’s a chance to breathe, a chance to reset your system and bring a new reality to an otherwise blank page. All of us as humans need to express ourselves in some way. When there are limits to how you can express yourself, having an outlet where you can create, where you can make art, opens doors to new ways of thinking and helps us to see ourselves in new and beautiful ways.

60% of the proceeds from the sale of artwork at the exhibit benefit the artist and 40% goes to support HomeFront’s ArtSpace. FREE and OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY!

Return to Forbidden Planet - Kelsey Theatre

Sunday May 5, 2019
2:00 PM

A spaceship with Captain Tempest at the helm makes an emergency landing on the uncharted planet of D’Illyria. The only residents are the mad scientist Dr. Prospero, his daughter, Miranda, and their retro robot, Ariel. They were banished into hyperspace when Miranda was just a baby, and she has known no other world than this one. This tale of unrequited love, a scary space monster, dialogue in iambic pentameter, and lots of fun songs all adds up to one groovy show! Loosely based on Shakespeare’s The Tempest and the 1956 sci-fi film “Forbidden Planet,” the show parodies 1950s sci fi, while paying homage to Shakespeare and much-loved rock ’n roll classics such as “Great Balls of Fire,” “The Monster Mash” and “Good Vibrations,” among others.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors, and $16 for students/children and may be purchased online at www.KelseyTheatre.net or by calling the Kelsey Box Office at 609-570-3333. Kelsey Theatre is wheelchair accessible, with free parking next to the theater. For a complete listing of adult and children's events, visit the Kelsey website or call the box office for a brochure.
