10th Annual Walk for Diane Marks a Decade of Supporting Early Detection and Treatment of Breast Cancer

Buccleuch Park at Easton Avenue and Huntington Street, New Brunswick

10th Annual 5K (3.1 miles) Walk for Diane helps raise funds for women who are unable to afford procedures to detect breast cancer early, when it's most treatable, and receive potentially life-saving care. All walkers are asked for a $15 registration fee, as well as to raise $70 – half the cost of a screening mammogram by accessing The Amy Foundation website: www.amyfoundation.org.

You can register to "Participate as an Individual" or to "Join a Team" or "Create a Team." Donations also can be made in support of specific walkers, a team or in general. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. Registration will close at midnight on Friday, October 22, but anyone who wishes to participate is welcome to register on-site the day of the event.

Flemingtonā€™s Historic Churches Tour

The Hunterdon County Historical Society and the Calvary Episcopal Church are partnering to offer walking or driving tours of four of Flemington’s historic churches on Sunday, October 28, 2018 from 1:00-3:30 pm.

The tours begin with ticket sales and tours of the Historical Society’s 1845 Doric House at 1:00 p.m. at 114 Main Street in Flemington. Church tours may be walked, (1.3 miles) or driven in any order after getting a tickets-- but tours end at the Cavalry Episcopal Church with refreshments. The $5.00 ticket sale price per person will be donated to a local food pantry.

Church historians will be on-hand at each of the four churches: Calvary Episcopal, Flemington United Methodist, Flemington Baptist and the Flemington Presbyterian and will share the fascinating history of these houses of worship. A history- rich tour booklet with the ticket sale describes the history and architecture of these beautiful buildings. Also included will be a self-guided walking tour brochure describing other buildings along the way. At the last stop, visitors may enjoy refreshments at the Calvary Episcopal Church. War of the Worlds, Sarnoff Collection

Martians attack! Come to the Sarnoff Collection on Sunday, October 28, 2017 at 1:30 pm to Orson Welles' iconic 1938 radio play, War of the Worlds. You'll hear it just like its original listeners would have-- from the speaker of our vintage 1936 RCA radio.

The Sarnoff Collection is located on the second floor of Roscoe West Hall at The College of New Jersey. Visitor parking is available at the entrance to Parking Lot 17 and on the circle in front of the Education School.

'A Raisin in the Sun', Kelsey Theatre

This searing drama tells the story of the Youngers, a black working class family struggling to achieve the American Dream in the face of racial tensions and economic disenfranchisement in 1950s Chicago. When an unexpected financial windfall gives them the opportunity for a better life, conflicts both within and outside the family and pressures from without threaten to tear it apart. All hopes hinge on their next move. Lorraine Hansberry’s drama, the first Broadway play by an African-American woman, changed the face of American theater, and relevant six decades after its debut.

Dates and show times are Fridays, Oct. 19 and 26 at 8 p.m.; Saturdays, Oct. 20 and 27 at 8 p.m.; and Sundays, Oct. 21 and 28 at 2 p.m. (There will be a school performance on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 10 a.m.) Kelsey Theatre is located on the college’s West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.

Bernstein Centennial, Boheme Opera NJ

On Sunday, October 28 at 3:00pm, Boheme Opera NJ celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of one of America’s most famous composers and conductors, Leonard Bernstein. The Bernstein Centennial will be presented at the MILDRED & ERNEST E. MAYO CONCERT HALL on the campus of The College of New Jersey 2000 Pennington Rd, Ewing Township, NJ 08628.

Tickets for Boheme Opera’s Bernstein Centennial (October 28), as well as for its 30th season centerpiece main stage production of Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida (April 5 & 7, 2019) will go on sale in mid-September via a link on the homepage of www.bohemeopera.com.

"Halloween!", Westminster Community Orchestra

Westminster Community Orchestra, conducted by Ruth Ochs and Sergey Tkachenko, will present a concert titled "Halloween!" on Sunday, October 28 at 3 p.m. in the Robert L. Annis Playhouse on the campus of Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton, N.J. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. The Halloween-themed program features the Overture to Orpheus in the Underworld by Offenbach, "Funeral March of a Marionette" by Gounod, "Mars" from Holst's The Planets, the first movement of Schubert's Symphony No. 4, "Tragic," Ravel's Pavane pour une infant défunte and the "Raiders March" from Raiders of the Lost Ark by John Williams, as well as special selections for strings. The program also showcases the talents of Westminster Conservatory's Suzuki Violin Program.

Sunday, October 28 at 4 pm - thePrinceton Symphony Orchestra (PSO) welcomes pianist Inon Barnaton and conductor Marcelo Lehninger to Princeton for collaboration on a two-day cycle of all five piano concertos completed by Ludwig van Beethoven.
