'A Raisin in the Sun', Kelsey Theatre

Friday October 19, 2018
8:00 PM

This searing drama tells the story of the Youngers, a black working class family struggling to achieve the American Dream in the face of racial tensions and economic disenfranchisement in 1950s Chicago. When an unexpected financial windfall gives them the opportunity for a better life, conflicts both within and outside the family and pressures from without threaten to tear it apart. All hopes hinge on their next move. Lorraine Hansberry’s drama, the first Broadway play by an African-American woman, changed the face of American theater, and relevant six decades after its debut.

Dates and show times are Fridays, Oct. 19 and 26 at 8 p.m.; Saturdays, Oct. 20 and 27 at 8 p.m.; and Sundays, Oct. 21 and 28 at 2 p.m. (There will be a school performance on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 10 a.m.) Kelsey Theatre is located on the college’s West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. A reception with the cast and crew follows the opening night performance on Oct. 19.

American Repertory Ballet Presents Coppélia at State Theatre New Jersey

Friday October 19, 2018
8:00 PM

On Friday, October 19 at 8:00 pm, American Repertory Ballet (ARB) presents the timeless classic ballet, Coppélia, at the State Theatre New Jersey in New Brunswick. "We are excited to be bringing Coppélia to the State Theater stage this fall," says Artistic Director Douglas Martin. "One of the few comedic ballets in the classical ballet repertoire, Coppélia is the perfect story ballet for all audiences."

In Coppélia, brilliant classical dance meets a delightfully comic narrative. The three-act ballet tells the light-hearted story of how Franz, a village boy engaged to Swanhilda, becomes infatuated with a life-like doll created by the eccentric inventor, Dr. Coppelius. Hilarity ensues over love and mistaken identity.

A delightful evening of ballet fun for families and children of all ages, The New York Times calls Coppélia "one of the happiest ballets in existence." Tickets start at $35. To order, visit stnj.org or call 732.246.7469.
