“An Evening with Taji Nahl”, The Gallery at Mercer County Community College

The Gallery at Mercer County Community College (MCCC) presents a special exhibit featuring interdisciplinary artist Taji Ra'oof Nahl from Wednesday, Oct. 10 through Thursday, Oct. 18. On Oct. 10, the Gallery hosts “An Evening with Taji Nahl” from 5 to 7 p.m., with Nahl’s presentation to start at 6 p.m. The public is invited.

Originally part of the seventh Micro Film Festival #7, Nahl will project three films simultaneously in the Gallery’s main room as he explores the past- and present-day surveillance state. During the screening of the films on Oct. 10, Nahl will perform a live improv score with fellow musician Joan Lopez. An informal Q&A session will follow the presentation. The films will be shown through Thursday, Oct. 18.

The MCCC Gallery is located on the second floor of the Communications Building on the college’s West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. More information, including directions, is available at

Beyond Pink – An Art Show, YWCA Princeton

Join us for the first-ever Beyond Pink Art Show sponsored by Princeton Radiology, a unique event that showcases art created by or inspired by breast cancer survivors! The show will include over 15 breast casts painted by survivors, as well as paintings, sculpture, photography, and poetry. Complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served as well as a silent auction. Tickets are $50 and tax-deductible.

Famous, and Not-So-Famous Patents, Lawrence Library

On Thursday, October 18th at 7:00 pm the Lawrence Headquarters Branch of the Mercer County Library System will host Ronald J. Campbell, Ph.D., Esq., for a presentation on patents. Having had two 25-year careers, the first as an industrial-R&D, Ph.D. scientist, and the second as a patent attorney, with technological innovation being the common thread of these two careers, Mr. Campbell will include his own personal stories relating to some of the patents being covered. The lecture will cover a wide variety of patents, ranging from a few really bizarre and/or humorous patents, as well as some of the more significant patents, especially those that have had the most extensive commercial and socioeconomic impact.

Panel Discussion for School Integration Anniversary, Historical Society of Princeton

To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the “Princeton Plan,” the Historical Society of Princeton is hosting a panel discussion at its Updike Farmstead headquarters on Thursday, October 18, at 7:00 PM.

A school integration process that went on to be nationally recognized, the “Princeton Plan” combined two elementary schools, the Nassau Street School and the Witherspoon School, in 1948. The discussion will contextualize the event in the broader national and regional historical context of desegregation, as well as inform about the local impact and national reverberations of the Princeton Plan. Featured speakers are Kevin M. Kruse, Professor of History at Princeton University, and local historian Shirley Satterfield, a member of the first integrated class at the Nassau Street School.

This program is presented in conjunction with exhibitions about the Princeton Plan at the Historical Society of Princeton and the Princeton Room at the Princeton Public Library this fall. This program is free and open to the public, thanks to support from the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education and Genocide Studies. Illustrated Lecture on the Alligator, the Navy's First Submarine

On Thursday, October 18, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. in Titusville, NJ, naval historian Chuck Veit will give an illustrated lecture on the Alligator, the Navy's first submarine. The fascinating story of the Alligator, its missions, and its loss, is told against the history of underwater vessels in the first half of the 19th century. This free lecture is sponsored by the Delaware River Greenway Partnership (DRGP). It will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Route 546 in Titusville, NJ.

This talk is one in a series sponsored by DRGP on different aspects of the cultural and natural heritage of the Delaware River and is open to the public free of charge.
