The Ronald E. Hatcher Science On Saturday Lecture Series returns to the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) this year to offer lectures to science fans of all ages. Talks run from 9:30-11 a.m., which includes a presentation and Q&A. The talks are held online and in person at the Melvin B. Gottlieb Auditorium in PPPL’s Lyman Spitzer Building, located at 100 Stellarator Road in Princeton, New Jersey. Register here for the Zoom link for all the talks.
Feb. 8: “Quantum-level Spectral Analysis and Deep Learning for Life Science and Biomedical Research,” Corey Toler-Franklin, Columbia University
This talk will present projects at the Graphics Imaging & Light Measurement Lab (GILMLab) that combine optical imaging, physics and artificial intelligence (AI) for real-world application in life science and biomedical research.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, learn the art of pressed flowers and how to create unique pressed flower art. Local artist and owner of Flore Organic Botanics, Sophie Meunier, will provide participants with a pressed flower demonstration as well as a large selection of already pressed flowers and materials needed to create beautiful works of art. Tickets are $90 and include all materials. Spaces are limited to provide an intimate setting. Light refreshments will be served.

Join Watershed Education staff to discover the history, folklore and science of maple sugaring. Visit our maple trees, find out how we tap them using drills and spiles, and try a sample of sweet maple sugar. Learn about the evaporation process and how sticky sap transforms into sweet maple syrup. (The operation of our outdoor evaporator is dependent on the amount of sap the trees produce and the weather. At the top of the hour, kiddos will enjoy a gentle introduction to the instruments used, simple rhythms, how to make music together, and a few tunes. Then play along with some rad percussion instruments and dance it out at the Prisms Pee-Wee Party to follow! Snacks will be served and good times will be had.
