Douglass wrote more than one autobiography and became a well regarded and often photographed orator. His insightful, searing and rhetorically powerful words speak across the centuries. In July 2020, Douglass’s descendants read his speech “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July,” each word resonating with the protests in the streets and the chants of “Black Lives Matter.”
This lecture will discuss Frederick Douglass’s long commitment to moral suasion - the school of thought that is embodied in the adage “the pen is mightier than the sword.” *Use this link to join our virtual program: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85847490616?pwd=eEdreDdLa0VQKzZZZmd2ZWJXcThXQT09
