Pennington Day May 18, 2013

04/11/2013

Pennington Day is held in downtown Pennington Boro along Main Street and adjacent roads intersecting Main Street.

This popular community event has become a positive force for the town, Hopewell Valley and local area businesses and organizations. Pennington Day's origins date back to January 1980 when a huge fire occurred at the Pennington School's four-story O'Hanlon Hall. The electrically-started blaze brought 19 fire companies to the scene to fight the unfolding disaster. In its aftermath, the borough and its residents came together in an effort to decide what they could do to help the school recover from its tragedy. From the ashes of O'Hanlon Hall sprang the first Pennington Day later that year; the proceeds of which helped the prep school recover from its disaster.

Since that time, Pennington Day has become one of the most important dates on the borough and Hopewell Valley's annual calendars. Pennington Day's mission is to further the borough's community spirit and identity as a community and enhance its quality of life, while providing community groups, civic organizations and businesses throughout Hopewell Valley an opportunity to inform the community of their mission, allowing community organizations from within Hopewell Valley to raise funds through their sponsorship of Pennington Day events and/or the booths they set up, and finally, to disburse any funds in excess of expenses to charitable organizations within the Hopewell Valley in the form of annual grants.

Annual Pennington Day May 19

03/22/2018

Pennington, NJ – Pennington’s annual community street fair, traditionally held on every 3rd Saturday in May, celebrates the Greater Hopewell Valley area’s best family fun, food vendors, arts and crafts, music, dance, non-profits and more.

Over 5,000 people and 225 unique booth vendors took part in last year’s festivities, with 2018 looking to grow even more. The day-long event, which takes up the greater part of South Main Street, does more than just entertain - it helps great causes. The funds raised by Pennington Day booth vendors contributes to grants that are awarded to many local civic causes, surpassing $15k in 2017. But the day really is focused on family fun, like the long standing Quilt Show, Coffeehouse Stage and dance performances that delight kids and adults alike.

“Kids from 8 months to 80 years enjoy Pennington Day every year,” says board chair Rachel Donington. “It’s a community-driven event that reminds us how special it is to be a part of Hopewell Valley."

While it’s still March, time is limited to register for booth space as it’s expected to sell out again. For-Profit and non-profit both vendors are encouraged to apply as quickly as possible. And only a few spots remain for food vendors, who take residence at the Toll Gate Elementary school loop and Howe Commons. To register, visit: http://penningtonday.org/vendors/

One of the best ways for a company to align their brand with Pennington Day and the five thousand-plus attendees is through official sponsorships, with different levels available. For more information, visit: http://penningtonday.org/sponsorship/

And the Pennington Day committee is still taking grant requests. To learn more about the grant request process and to submit a request, visit: http://penningtonday.org/grants/

The rain-or-shine event starts at 10 AM and ends at 4 PM. To learn more or to apply for a booth, visit www.penningtonday.org or like/follow their social channels (facebook: PenningtonDayInMay twitter: @penningtonday1 instagram: pennington_day_event

Hopewell Valley Quilters Planning Annual Pennington Day Show May 19

04/02/2018

Pennington, NJ – Hopewell Valley Quilters are planning their annual Pennington Day show to be held on May 19, 2018, from 10 am to 4 pm in the Toll Gate Grammar School cafeteria. The quilts on display are made by members and reflect a great variety of styles, from beautiful traditional patterns to contemporary works of fiber art. This year’s show will include two special exhibits. The Quilters challenged themselves to make small quilts with “Houses” as a theme. The challenge quilts incorporate this theme in creative and diverse ways. Pennington Day falls this year on Armed Forces Day. A special display of red, white and blue quilts will pay tribute to those who serve our country. Another table will feature baby quilts.

Viewers will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite quilt in the show. The Viewers’ Choice Prize has been donated by Pennington Quilt Works. Admission to the show is only $1.00, and proceeds benefit Pennington Day 2018.

Hopewell Valley Quilters is an informal group that has been meeting for over 30 years. The group meets both in the daytime and in the evening in the Hopewell Township branch of Mercer County Library. All are welcome.

More information about the quilt group will be available at the show.

Toll Gate Grammar School is located on the corner of S. Main Street and E. Curlis Avenue. Entry to the show is on the north side of the school building and handicapped parking is available.
