Friends of the Lawrence Library January Book Sale
Shop the Friends of the Lawrence Library January Book Sale for thousands of used, gently-read books for readers of all ages. The sale opens to the general public on Friday, January 26, at 10:00 am and ends Monday, January 29 at 4:30 pm at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch of the Mercer County Library System, 2751 Brunswick Pike, Lawrenceville, New Jersey. Voices Chorale Auditions Begin January 15
Join Voices Chorale now by setting up a brief, stress-free audition. All voice parts are welcome, especially tenors and basses! Princeton Police Department Partners with Uber For Your DD Needs - The Princeton Police Department has partnered with the ride sharing service Uber to help eliminate drunk driving within the Town of Princeton. The program allows patrons of Princeton bars and restaurants to scan a QR code to receive a free ride home up to a $15 value. The QR code will be active at all participating locations on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings during the hours of 8pm and 2am with a destination or drop off location within the Town of Princeton. Go out and enjoy all of what Princeton has to offer and grab a ride home on us. Hiking is a great way to improve your physical and mental health! Join the park naturalist for a quickly paced 2 mile hike along the trails of WCHP. Please keep in mind that these hikes are intended to maintain a quick hiking pace. Prepare yourself for the day by bringing a full water bottle, wearing sturdy shoes, and dressing for the weather! 1/7 - "Experience the Battle of Princeton", Princeton Battlefield Society (PBS) will mark the 247th anniversary of Battle of Princeton with its signature educational event, at Princeton Battlefield State Park, 500 Mercer St, Princeton NJ 08540. The event will begin at 9:45 a.m. with introductions and comments on the background of the battle. Members of the general public are urged to arrive at the site by 9:15 a.m. A narrated reenactment of a portion of the Battle of Princeton will begin at 10:00 a.m. featuring reenactors portraying Crown and Continental forces. 1/7 – Screening of ‘Common Ground ‘plus Discussion with Spring Creek Farm, Acme Screening Room, 3:30-6pm. Join us for a post screening Discussion with owner Brent Aldefer and livestock manager Matt Dingle of Spring Creek Farm. A hopeful and uplifting story of the pioneers of the “Regenerative Movement” who produce tremendous quantities of nutritionally dense food and are working to balance the climate – all while bringing our entire ecosystem back to life. This unique event aims to bring people together in celebration of unity, creativity, and science and the enduring spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Join us for an afternoon/evening of science experiments and community engagement as we conduct fun lab experiments, sip, and reflect on the legacy of Dr. King. 1/14 - Winter Large Ensemble Concert, Youth Orchestra of Central Jersey (YOCJ), 3 and 8pm., with YOCJ’s Symphonic Orchestra featuring soloist Ranaan Meyer who will perform his first concerto for double bass and orchestra entitled “Concerto For My Family,” an homage to the people who lifted him up along the way. 1/19 - The Princeton Folk Music Society presents Poor Man's Gambit, 8pm., The multi-instrumentalist group comprises Deirdre Lockman (fiddle and vocals), Corey Purcell (button accordion, cittern, bodhran, vocals, and dance), and Federico Betti (guitar and fiddle). Deidre and Corey are steeped in the traditional Irish culture of the Philadelphia area. Federico found a different path to joining the trio. He grew up in Milan, Italy, where he first learned to play the fiddle and fell in love with traditional Irish music. Poor Man's Gambit has been noted for their ability to change instrumentation many times over the space of a performance, and for incorporating elements of Irish dance. 1/20 - Tehani Mid-East & Polynesian Dance, WWAC, 2-3:30pm., January is the perfect time to take a break from the cold weather and join us for a lively performance based on the traditional culture of Hawaii and the Mid-East. The sun will be shining inside at the arts center as the Tehani Mid-East & Polynesian Dance Co takes the floor with traditional music and costumes. Learn about the cultural and historical significance for the dances of the region. The audience will be treated to a Polynesian performance with an interlude for costume change and then a belly dance performance in folkloric styles. The ancient British tradition of wassailing the apple trees to protect them from harm is a popular winter celebration at Terhune Orchards that you won’t want to miss! Activities include singing, dancing and playing of primitive instruments, toasts of hot cider and placing gifts of cider-soaked bread in the tree branches while chanting the lively words of praise and New Year.
