Necessity is the mother of invention for DIY culture, especially in the arts in NYC. Altamura Legacy Concerts is excited to bring that spirit to its living room setting in the heart of Princeton (Princeton UMC at the corner of Nassau and Vandeventer) on Sunday, October 15 at 4 p.m. The gathering kicks off with pioneer breakdancer Ana "Rokafella" Garcia in a talk, demonstration, and viewing of excerpts from her film "All the Ladies Say." John Cage's prepared piano music follows with New York Times-profiled pianist Adam Tendler. ALC Artistic Director Cristina Altamura hosts with Adam Sliwinski (Sō Percussion). Coffee bar opens at 3:30, with Princeton University piano student Otto Trueman warming up the audience starting at 3:45pm. Mercer County Ropes Course and Zipline - The Mercer County Park Commission has contracted with the Philadelphia Outward Bound School to oversee programming for the inaugural fall season of the Ropes Course and Zipline operations for patrons 12 and older. The ropes course at Mercer County Park contains 12 "challenges" or elements, including the Zigzag, Swinging Logs, and the Postman's Walk. Each challenge gives the participant the opportunity to use their balance, focus and teamwork skills. Ropes Course Programing will be offered on a limited number of dates through mid-November. Read more.

10/11 - "Slavery, It Happened Here, Too – Stories from New Jersey, Part 2." The Sankofa Collaborative presents its final workshop of 2023. Sponsored by the New Jersey Council for the Humanities and the New Jersey Historical Commission, the all-day workshop will focus on methods and sources for tracing African American history. Held at the Grounds For Sculpture, with continental breakfast at 8:30 am, the program will continue from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm with lunch and afternoon refreshments. 10/13 – 10/15 - American Repertory Ballet (ARB)’S "Elevate" - at the state-of-the-art New Brunswick Performing Arts Center (NBPAC), October 13-15. The program features world premieres by celebrated choreographers Stephanie Martinez and Meredith Rainey, along with the highly anticipated return of ARB Artistic Director Ethan Stiefel's rousing Wood Work, set to modern renditions of Nordic folk tunes by the Danish String Quartet. 10/14 - Fall Clean Up Day at the Princeton Battlefield, 11-2pm., The Princeton Battlefield Society (PBS) invites interested local citizens and their families to come to their annual Fall Clean Up Day; enjoy the autumn weather and help keep Princeton Battlefield in great condition for future visitors.The event will take place on Saturday, October 14, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Princeton Battlefield State Park located at 500 Mercer Street. Garden tools and gloves will be available to use for clean-up tasks although, please feel free to bring your own. 10/14 - Evening of Traditional Indian Dance with Shivani Badgi, WWAC, 6-9pm., West Windsor Arts is hosting a special solo dance performance by Shivani Badgi, an Indian American dancer, teacher and choreographer. Badgi will perform Nritya Mehfil, a traditional Kathak dance that originated in northern India hundreds of years ago. Kathak is derived from the Sanskrit word "katha," which means story. During a Kathak performance, the dancer becomes a storyteller through graceful, expressive movements. Tickets are $35 for West Windsor Arts members and $40 for non-members. 10/15 - Concert | The Princeton Singers: Inspirations, Art on Hulfish, 7pm, Inspired by the exhibition Art about Art: Contemporary Photographers Look at Old Master Paintings, this choral concert from the Princeton Singers is an exploration of how composers such as Josquin des Prez and Johannes Brahms were inspired by musicians of the past. 10/26 - The Flamboyant Baroque - Music of the 18th Century, Richardson Auditorium, 6-9pm., Journey back to the 18th century as we travel from the London of Henry Purcell to the Rome of Arcangelo Corelli and indulge in the glamorous spirit of the era’s music. Our guides—young virtuoso baroque violinist Théotime Langlois de Swarte and harpsichordist Justin Taylor, colleagues in famed ensemble Le Consort—will treat us to forgotten gems they have unearthed from old libraries, transcriptions of the most popular opera arias from the period, and masterpieces that continue to resonate to this day. 10/27 - All Barracks Eve at the Old Barracks Museum, 5pm., Join us for an evening of spooky seasonal fun at All Barracks Eve - enjoy cider and donuts around a bonfire while listening to chilling tales told by historically outfitted storytellers. Festivities begin at 5pm and will include living history demonstrations and kids' activities. Spooky stories will begin at 6pm. Admission is $5 per person, children 5 and under are free. 10/28 – Martian Bike Ride, 10am., Join the Historical Society of West Windsor and West Windsor Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance at the West Windsor Senior Center (271 Clarksville Road) for our Martian Bike Ride! This 5-mile loop will explore the historic 1700s-era West Windsor community of Grovers Mill as well as Orson Welles' infamous 1938 War of the Worlds broadcast that thrust that neighborhood into the national spotlight as the site of an "alien invasion."Come early to decorate your bike and helmet; costumes are encouraged! 10/28 - Halloween Hike, The Watershed, 7:30-9pm., Join us on a journey through the woods on a crisp autumn night led by a trail guide. Along the way you stop to meet the characters in an Irish Folktale that unfolds along the path. Guided hikes begin every 15 minutes; last hike begins at 8:30 p.m. Space is limited; register early to get your preferred time slot. This program is appropriate for ages 5 to adult. It will be a super fun (Halloween Themed), fast, flat, USTAF certified race course.
