Princeton Transitway Study Report Released This Week
New Jersey Transit has released its Preliminary Concept Analysis, which is a concept-level review of the Princeton Branch “Dinky” to guide the future of this important corridor. More information on NJ Transit’s Study is available here.

REAL IDs
The NJ Motor Vehicles Commission mobile unit will be issuing Real IDs from Monday, January 9, through Friday, January 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., at the Suzanne Patterson Senior Center located at 1 Monument Drive in Princeton. Any New Jersey resident can make an appointment by clicking on this link, and going to the Suzanne Patterson Senior Center location. Starting May 3, 2023, you must have a REAL ID compliant driver license/ID to fly within the U.S., unless you use a U.S. passport or another federally approved form of identification. Until the deadline, a standard New Jersey driver license is valid for air travel within the U.S. For more information including what documents you need to bring to your appointment, click here.

New Trash Collection Program Begins February 2023
On November 14, Council awarded a five-year Residential Solid Waste and Bulk Waste Collection contract to Princeton’s current waste hauler, Interstate Waste Services (IWS). Residents can expect to receive a new 64-gallon trash cart in late January through the beginning of February. The new collection contract begins on February 1, 2023. ArtWorks Presents The Red dot 10×10 Fundraising Exhibition 2022
December 10, 2021 – January 07, 2022
The 10×10 Red Dot Fundraising Exhibition is a chance for the novice to test the waters of original art, experienced artists to help Artworks fund continued programming, and an opportunity for the collector to build their art collection.
The Red Dot shows support of Community Arts in Trenton. Over 100 Trenton area artists create art on a 10"x10" canvas. The works are dynamic, diverse and all created specifically for Artworks. Experienced and novice artists create works in oil, acrylic, mixed media, photography, pastel, watercolor and more. All works sell for $100.00. There will be a 50/50 split on proceeds with the artist. Give the gift of original art to loved ones for the holidays. Artwork purchased at the 10×10 show can be taken home that night. Pickleball Courts are now OPEN to the Public
The courts are open from dawn to dusk (weather permitting) on a first-come, first-served basis! Reservations are not required and the courts are FREE to use. The courts are located behind Community Park Elementary School and Community Park Pool, near the tennis wall. Trial period runs until April 1, 2023.

12/8 – Free Nutrition Program, McCaffrey’s Princeton, 1:30pm., Join McCaffrey's Registered Dietitian, Jill Kwasny for an informative and free nutrition program: The Skinny on Diet Trends. Jill will discuss some of the more popular diets and review the pros and cons of different plans. Use this as an opportunity to get ahead of the curve before it gets ahead of you. 12/9 & 10 - An Evening of Readings & Carols: 30th Anniversary Celebration, Westminster Choir College of Rider University, 8pm., Evenings of holiday joy return to the Princeton University Chapel! Westminster Choir College of Rider University's popular holiday concert returns with evenings of holiday music and readings, featuring performances by Chapel Choir, Symphonic Choir, Jubilee Singers, and the Westminster Choir. This event is open to the public. Pricing ranges from $25 - $70 per ticket. There are no discounts for this event.

12/9 – Concert: The Princeton Folk Music Society, 8pm., folk singer Vance Gilbert - get ready for an eclectic roller coaster ride of emotions and musical styles. Vance has been called a folkie trapped in a vaudevillian body, with a voice that could have been on the opera stage, a wit that could have been on a comedy stage, and a songwriting talent that has thrust him on the folk stage for decades.

12/10 – Housing Justice Forum, Princeton Public Library, 11-3pm., The housing crisis in America will be addressed by panels of experts Saturday, Dec. 10 during a Housing Justice Forum in the Community Room of Princeton Public Library. The forum may also be attended virtually via Zoom The event features panel discussions at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and an opportunity at 2 p.m. to connect with people who are working locally on housing and related efforts. Lunch will be provided at noon for in-person attendees.

12/11 – Washington’s Landing in New Jersey, Washington Crossing State Park, 10-3pm., Please join State Park historians, the Washington Crossing Park Association, the First Rhode Island Regiment (a group of African-American reenactors who tell the stories of the historically-underrepresented men and women who fought in the Revolutionary War), and other NJ-based reenactor groups who will give the public an opportunity to experience both the Crossing and the March to Trenton through the eyes of the men and women who lived it.
The encampment will take place at the New Jersey Park's "Overlook," next to the historic Johnson Ferry House, with a wonderful view of the river below. Reenactors will patrol the lower park, encouraging visitors to undertake a brief "march" over the Park's pedestrian bridge and up to the Overlook, where cozy fires, hot cider, and skilled reenactors will regale them with tales of the rich history that took place in Mercer County. Special efforts will be made to engage the youngest visitors in the hope of sparking their interest in New Jersey history. www.wcpa-nj.com/landing

12/11 – Book Brunch: ‘The Lindbergh Nanny’, Princeton Public Library/Historical Society of Princeton, 10:45am., The author Mariah Fredericks talks about her new novel, "The Lindbergh Nanny," and the extensive research she used to write about the 1932 kidnapping of 20-month-old Charles Lindbergh Jr. Book signing to follow. Doors will open at 10:45 a.m. for coffee and pastries. Please enter the Community Room via the doors on Hinds Plaza. 12/11 - The South Philly Big Band plays Holiday Favorites & Jazz Standards, Unitarian Universalist Church, 12pm., Join us at UUCWC for an afternoon concert with the South Philly Big Band! This family-friendly event features a 17-piece big band performing holiday favorites and jazz standards. 12/14 -Westminster Community Orchestra: Holiday Chestnuts and Sing-along, 7:30pm., Join Dr. Ruth Ochs and the Westminster Community Orchestra for their annual family in The Robert L. Annis Playhouse on the Westminster Campus, 101 Walnut Lane, Princeton. Free-will monetary donations to benefit area food pantries will be accepted. The free performance will feature holiday favorites such as Leontovich's Carol of the Bells and Bernard's Winter Wonderland. 12/18 - The Great British Baking Tour: Holiday Edition, Princeton Public Library, 3pm., Join UK travel/relocation consultant and former UK resident Claire Evans via Zoom for a delightful culinary tour of the UK inspired by “The Great British Baking Show” television series, aired on PBS. Learn about making a proper cup of tea, regional specialties, their origins, and the particular parts of the UK they hail from. As it’s the holidays, she’ll focus on festive baking in particular. 12/21 - Community Chanukah Jazz Concert, Temple Har Zion, 7:30pm., Award-winning jazz and klezmer violinist Ben Sutin will bring his talent and energy to Mount Holly for a community Chanukah concert Dec. 21, the fourth night of Chanukah. It's a homecoming for the New York-based musician, who grew up in Medford. A Grammy-nominated violinist, pianist, composer and educator, Sutin has performed at venues including Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium, NJPAC, Lincoln Center's Appel Room, the Nassau Coliseum, Clifford Brown Jazz Festival and more. The concert will be held at Temple Har Zion, 255 High St. in Mt. Holly. All attendees must register with full name and contact information by Dec. 20 to RSVP@templeharzion.org. The event is free and open to the public, with suggested donation $18 for THZ, CBT and Temple Sinai members, $36 for non-members.

12/24 - Christmas Eve Caroling Around the Square, 4:30pm
Gather around on the Palmer Square Green to sing holiday songs on Saturday, Dec. 24 at 4:30 p.m. The Christmas Eve Brass Band will lead the festivities, and attendees can expect a special visit from Santa after caroling. This event is free and open to the public, so bring the whole family!

12/31 - Hogmanay, Trent House Association, 2pm., Welcome to Hogmanay, the Scottish celebration of the New Year! William Trent, founder of Trenton, immigrated from Scotland as a young man to Philadelphia where he become a wealthy shipping merchant. We commemorate his Scottish heritage with a program with Hogmanay traditions from his homeland.
Hear bagpipers start off the program, learn the authentic recipe for shortbread of Trent's time, listen to Scottish folk tales, enjoy Scottish treats, and end with sending your wishes for 2023 up in smoke!
