24th Annual Holiday Gift Guide – Donors Needed
For the past 24 years, Princeton Human Services, municipal employees, local businesses, and private donors have made hundreds of Princeton children’s holiday wishes come true by providing them with gifts for the holidays. In these challenging economic times post-pandemic, the need is greater than ever. Applications for interested donors are being accepted until November 18, 2022. Sponsor a child’s wish list by purchasing 1-2 gifts (not exceeding $75) for children up to age 12. We are asking people to also consider donating a gift card to help the parents/families of the children during these difficult times.

HOMEFRONT’S HOLIDAY MARKET 2022 offers the public an opportunity to purchase inspiring works by HomeFront artists, who have been impacted by homelessness and poverty. Artists in HomeFront’s ArtSpace program sell their handmade candles, crocheted items, original paintings, as well as ArtSpace hand-painted Holiday Greeting Cards. In addition, we will feature the “ANEW Artists” group, originally founded at the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK). Visitors will also enjoy the “White Elephant Holiday Shop” filled with treasures and festive items from creative local vendors.

Accepting Submissions for the 2023 Princeton Environmental Film Festival(PEFF) - Submissions are being accepted through Jan. 23 for the 2023 Princeton Environmental Film Festival (PEFF), a signature Princeton Public Library event featuring films and filmmaker presentations which explore sustainability and environmental issues.The festival will be held March 24-31, and films will be screened in person and available to stream online. An entry form and additional information about PEFF is available at princetonlibrary.org/peff. There is no fee to submit a film for consideration.

Weekday Volunteers Needed!
Friends of Princeton Open Space is offering plenty of opportunity to get outside and enjoy the picture-perfect Princeton fall weather helping with field work in the Billy Johnson Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve. The scope of work includes restoration plantings, invasive plant removal, tree trunk painting to deter beaver chew, and winter seed sowing. 11/3 - Symposium: How Museums Are Diversifying Their Collections to Include Black and Brown Artists, 5pm., Art on Hulfish, A 2019 Williams College survey of the collections of 18 major US museums found that, of a selection from works by 9,000 named artists, just 1.2% of works were made by Black artists. A panel of museum curators and directors will consider how museums are now working to diversify their collections. Free registration via Zoom here. (When prompted, click to sign in as "attendee.") 11/4 – Job Fair, Princeton Middle School, 2-4pm., Please join us to discuss short-term, temporary, and long-term jobs at Princeton Middle School. Princeton Public Schools encourages parents (and their friends, adult children or spouses) to apply for jobs and substitute teaching positions. We will interview candidates and expedite applications on Friday afternoon. We have a variety of interesting jobs for current substitutes. Are you a retired teacher? Drop by and chat with us. We have leave replacement positions in English Language Arts, Financial Literacy, and Special Education. The event will take place at Princeton Middle School, 217 Walnut Lane, Princeton, NJ 08540.

11/4 – A Tribute to Stevie Nicks, Princeton Public Library, 7-9pm., A pioneer of women in rock and a cultural icon, Stevie Nicks has written and sung dozens of hit songs - both solo and with Fleetwood Mac - since she first appeared on the music scene in the 1970s. This concert is being held in advance of the event on Nov. 10 with Simon Morrison for "Mirror in the Sky," his recently released biography of Nicks.The tribute show, produced by Rob Freeman, will include 16 of Nicks's greatest songs and feature the local vocalists and musicians. 11/5 – Avi Wisnia Concert, West Windsor Arts Center, 7pm., Award-winning singer/songwriter Avi Wisnia finds inspiration in 1950's west-coast jazz, acoustic American folk, Brazilian bossa nova, and contemporary piano pop. After the release of his debut studio album, Something New, he performed around the country in prestigious venues alongside renowned artists like The Roots, Ani DiFranco, Arturo Sandoval and Maroon 5, also performing concert tours in Japan, Poland, and Brazil. 11/15 – PICKLEBALL – Princeton Ski & Sail Club, 7-9pm., Pickleball, presented by the Mercer Bucks Pickleball club. It is the fastest growing sport in America. Invented in 1965 in Bainbridge Washington, it is a paddle ball sport that combines the best of tennis, ping pong, and badminton. The name of the game "Pickleball" purportedly came from the founder's wife who shared that the newly invented game reminded her of the "Pickle Boat" in crew where oarsmen were chosen from the leftovers of other boats. We will discover who can play, what you will need, and where to play in our immediate area. 11/16 – PSRC Health & Wellness Fair, 1-4pm., This year we are hosting our health and wellness fair in-person at our NSK location. We invite our community to join us for an afternoon with local health and wellness providers. There will be free on-site screenings by qualified medical professionals. In addition to gathering information about providers and services, we will have a therapy dog on-site. We highly recommend registering in advance, but walk-ins will also be welcome. 11/17 – McCaffrey’s Princeton Free Nutrition Event, 1:30-2:30pm., November is National Diabetes Month and a time when communities across the country bring attention to diabetes and pre-diabetes. According to the CDC, more than 1 in 3 adults may have pre-diabetes – and not know they have it. Join McCaffrey's Registered Dietitian, Jill Kwasny, for an informative and free nutrition program: Eating Well to Prevent Diabetes. Jill will discuss risk factors for diabetes and address questions about diet, carbohydrates, and the glycemic index. As always, Jill will offer menu ideas, cooking techniques and share a delicious recipe to sample. The program will be held in the upstairs bistro area, at the McCaffrey's Market in Princeton, located in the Princeton Shopping Center at 301 N.Harrison Street. 11/18 – The Princeton Folk Music Society presents Bruce Molsky, 8pm., with an evening of fiddle, banjo, guitar, and song. Grammy-nominated and described as "an absolute master", Bruce transports audiences to another time and place, with his authentic and personal interpretations of rarities from the Southern Appalachian songbook and other musical traditions from around the globe. 11/19 – Roots & Branches of the 20th Century Black Arts Movement: Paul, Ossie, and Alvin, 1-2pm., Arts Council of Princeton.
This presentation will elucidate how the iconic voice and presence of Paul Robeson influenced the artistry and storytelling of Ossie Davis and Alvin Ailey. Local artist Maya Bradley will perform interpretive dance alongside the lecture presentation of Dr. Joy Barnes-Johnson, Program Chair of the Paul Robeson House of Princeton and Princeton Public Schools Educator.
