Due to the current heat wave hitting the state, New Jersey American Water is asking customers throughout central Jersey to adopt an odd/even outdoor watering schedule to conserve water, and at the same time save some money on their water bills. Please click here for more information.

Calling all youth ages 11-24! Come hang out in our new location for our Drop In Days this August. This is a space for our young people to hang out with friends, play games, grab free snacks and health products, access our services, and just chill.

Join Dress for Success Central NJ August 27 & 28 as we virtually power walk in solidarity with women around the globe. The Lifeline and 988 - 988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. While some areas may be currently able to connect to the Lifeline by dialing 988, this dialing code will be available to everyone across the United States starting on July 16, 2022. Click here to learn more.

The distance is up to you – it can be around the block, one mile, a 5K, a half marathon, or more. Volunteer at PLC
The teens at Princeton Learning Cooperative are always on the lookout for interesting, dedicated people who are willing to share their knowledge and skills. Generally a one-hour-a-week commitment, PLC volunteers tutor one-on-one, lead small-group classes, or offer a one-time workshop in a wide range of topics. Off The Wall Market for Handmade Items by Artisans and Crafters: West Windsor Arts Council is seeking handmade, functional and decorative objects created by artisans with a focus on sustainable items and/or practices. Work must be original and handcrafted by the artist. Deadline for entry: This is a rolling submission – we will review and accept entries as we get them. Healthy Kids Running Series - is a nonprofit inclusive youth running program for children 2 years old all the way through 8th grade. We aim to show families that healthy and active lifestyles can be fun! The program is 5 weeks and the children will run in their age appropriate distance each week (and will receive points based on their finishing place). It is perfect for all levels including beginners and is a great way to get the kids outside to #getupandgo. Registration includes the 5 weeks of racing, a tech t-shirt and a finishers medal for all! The male and female in each division with the highest total of points will also receive a trophy!

8/4 – Tech Workshop – Successfully Navigate Through College, 5:30pm., Princeton Public Library. This class offers useful advice and introduces the resources that colleges and universities use. Topics include understanding weighted assignments, practicing effective study habits, considering textbook options, learning effective test-taking techniques, considering career assessments, minimizing stress and maximizing performance. 8/4 – Outdoor Screening of ‘La La Land’, 8pm., Alexander Beach (behind Alexander Hall) Written and directed by Princeton native Damien Chazelle,La La Land follows Mia (Emma Stone), an aspiring actress, and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), a dedicated jazz musician, as the pair struggle to make ends meet. Set in modern-day Los Angeles, this original musical explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams. The film will begin at sundown (approximately 8 p.m.). Presented by Princeton University Art Museum.

8/5 – First Friday @Zuzu Gallery, 5-7pm., Stop in to see the current exhibition showcasing the paintings of Sherri Andrews, a fast-rising, award-winning artist. Andrews is best known for her bold landscapes, colorful flowers, graceful dancers and abstract images, which she creates using a mix of inks, acrylics and collage. Join us for some refreshments, see fine art, meet Sherri, and visit with other art lovers. 23 Phillips Avenue, Lawrenceville, NJ (next to Vidalia Restaurant). For details visit Zuzu's website.

8/6 – 22nd Annual Butterfly Festival, The Watershed Institute, 10-5pm., Many of our treasured activities and events are in the offing! We will have our Insect Zoo, Butterfly and Bug Parade, and tours of the Kate Gorrie Butterfly House. There will be food trucks, live entertainment, live music, kids' games & crafts, and many vendors. Our Nature Shop will be stocked with everything your little butterfly or bug may need. Preregistration is required. We will have time slots from 10 a.m. to noon, 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free for members! Please consider becoming a member today and help us keep our water clean, safe and healthy!

8/6 – Parking Lot Pop-Up Show: Lazy Bird & Ophiocoma, 6-9pm., ACP, Creative, charismatic, and certainly funky — these are just a few of the words that describe the young and upcoming band known as Lazy Bird. Hailing from the quaint yet musically inclined city of Burlington, Vermont, Lazy Bird’s astounding ability to improvise leads to a completely different listening experience each performance. The band cut their teeth with dorm room jams at the University of Vermont led by guitarist Jackson Bower and Princeton-born Saxophonist Matt Cincotta. Shortly after, Lazy Bird found themselves traveling across New England to play with up and coming bands such as Dogs in a Pile and Six Fox Whiskey. Doors open: 6pm Ophiocoma begins: 6:30pm. 8/6 & 8/7 – Peach Festival, Terhune Orchards, 10-5pm., Summer at Terhune orchards means peaches. Enjoy the summer bounty with our harvest festival as we celebrate "everything peachy." The Just Peachy Festival features a weekend full of family friendly fun included in admission! Families visit our barnyard of animals, walk the farm trail and play on our pedal and play tractors. Kids can enjoy interactive, hands-on fun in the Discovery Barn, Little Tots Farm Store and Junior Mechanics Shop, a scavenger hunt and old-fashioned games. (additional charge for pony rides and rubber duck races – so much fun to be had!) Included in admission, visitors can enjoy an “Eyes of the Wild” show both days at 12:45 and 2:00 p.m. This educational traveling zoo program features live animals that are sure to captivate children and adults alike. 8/7 – History Talk - The Good Americans: His Majesty's Loyal American Troops, 2pm., The Trent House Association presents a talk by Todd Braisted on the colonists who joined the British in their fight against their fellow Americans during the Revolutionary War. This free program will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2022, at 2:00 pm both in-person at the Trent House Visitor Center and via Zoom at tinyurl.com/THTalkAug7. 8/9 - Summer Board Game Fair & Monopoly Tournament, Princeton Public Library, 2-5pm., Playing board games and summer afternoons are a classic combination. Drop by for pick-up matches with new games and traditional favorites, from 2-4:30 p.m. Monopoly Tournament begins at 3 p.m. Pass 'Go' and take an imaginary trip to Atlantic City by playing in our Monopoly Tournament. Players will compete in an opening round that starts at 3 p.m., and some will advance to a final round, from 4:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Register to participate in the Monopoly Tournament. Eyes of the Wild animal show will be featuring animals that spend some of their time in the water (alligators, frogs, snakes, turtles) and discussing how animals interact with, use/depend on water or survive without it. 8/18 – Travel The D&R Canal with Historian Linda Barth, Morven, 6:30pm., Local Historian Linda Barth, a longtime canal expert, will share highlights and details about the Delaware and Raritan canal in this hybrid (virtual and in person event). In this hybrid event, Barth will discuss the history of the Canal, and how it relates to Morven itself, as well as the state of New Jersey. 8/19 – Story & Verse, 6pm., Pettoranello Gardens. The Arts Council of Princeton (ACP) and African American Cultural Collaborative of Mercer County (AACCMC) will present their monthly Story & Verse on Friday, August 19 at Pettoranello Gardens. This poetic and storytelling outdoor open mic, free and open to all, is the last outdoor event this summer before the event moves back indoors to the ACP's Solley Theater. Story & Verse welcomes local and regional talent to perform original works inspired by a monthly theme, providing attendees with free, community-created entertainment. This August, performers are invited to present original work inspired by this month's theme, "Circle of Life".The event will begin at 6pm. Interested performers should arrive by 5:45pm. 8/19 – Dancing Under the Stars, Hinds Plaza (Princeton Public Library), 7-10pm., Members of Central Jersey Dance demonstrate basic steps and lead others in an evening of dancing to recorded music of all kinds on Hinds Plaza, weather permitting; or Community Room. 8/25 - Reflections on 1781 Princeton: Exploring the Road to Yorktown, Morven Museum & Garden, 6:30pm., Join us at Morven Museum & Garden for Reflections on 1781 Princeton: Exploring the Road to Yorktown with Dr. Robert Selig, a special talk scheduled for Thursday, August 25, at 6:30 p.m. This event will kick-off New Jersey's commemoration of George Washington and the comte de Rochambeau's march to Yorktown and the eventual conclusion of the American Revolution. In-person tickets are $15 General Admission, $10 for Morven Members. Virtual tickets are $10 General Admission, $5 for Morven Members. Doors open for in-person guests at 6:00 p.m. in the Stockton Education Center. A Zoom link will be shared the day of the program for virtual ticket holders. 8/28 – 6th Annual Car Show & Family Fun Fest, 11-3pm., The Rotary Club of Somerset Hills, in partnership with Somerset Hills YMCA, a branch of Greater Somerset County YMCA, will host a Car Show & Family Fun Fest this Sunday, August 28, 2022. The event will take place at Somerset Hills YMCA at 140 Mount Airy Road, Basking Ridge, NJ from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is open to the community and admission is free. A selection of vintage cars will be on display, including a 1966 Batmobile. Trophies will be awarded in fifteen categories including the Mayor’s Cup and a People’s Choice Award. Music will be provided and food will be available for purchase. Kid-friendly activities will be provided by Somerset Hills YMCA.

8/28 – Prasadam Meal and Kirtan, 1-3pm., Kindly consider joining us outdoors at the Princeton YMCA this Sunday August 28th from 1:00 - 3:00 PM for this free program. Whether it's just for the prasadam, or also to participate in kirtan, all members of the community, their family and friends, are welcome to join us!
