Literacy New Jersey Mercer Programs Tutor Training Workshop Starting September - The gift of literacy is a great way to give back to our community! Join us as a volunteer tutor and help adults improve their English literacy skills. Work one-to-one or in small groups to teach adults who are learning to speak, read, and write English. Our Tutor Training Workshop will take place on Zoom, September 8, 15, 22, 29, and October 6, from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm. Participants are expected to attend all training sessions and complete some independent online assignments. Previous teaching experience not necessary. Our training will provide you with all the essential skills and support to become an effective tutor. After the training, you'll be ready to start meeting with your students online once a week. West Windsor 225th Anniversary Logo Contest
If you are interested in seeing your design represented on roadside banners, mugs, calendars, T-shirts, books, and more for an entire year, this is the project for you! Logo design entries will be collected from August 10 to September 30, 2021. The Year 225 Logo Contest is being overseen by the Historical Society of West Windsor (HSWW) and the West Windsor Arts Council (WWAC). A joint selection committee composed of members from both organizations will select and announce the winner – who will also win a free copy of, and get a shoutout in the Historical Society's upcoming West Windsor history book, to be published in the Fall of 2022! Color Fun Run, Hopewell Valley Arts Council @Woolsley Park September 19 Get colorful at the all-new Color Fun Run & Walk, hosted by Hopewell Valley Arts Council, at Woolsey Park. Everyone's a winner on the all-ages two+ mile course where individuals, teams, and families can walk, run, or anything in between. Watch whatever you wear turn into a technicolor masterpiece as you pass through five color stations along the route with volunteer color-blasters showering participants in food-grade dyed cornstarch. Registration is now open. The Color Fun Run and Walk, as the name suggests, is about fun. If one can walk for two miles and enjoys a good time, this event is a perfect fit. It is not timed. There is no pressure. Capture lasting memories at the colorful selfie station. Special recognition will be given to individuals or teams with the wackiest get-up! For refreshment, shave ice will be available for purchase.

9/10 – Bruce Springsteen's "Western Stars" - Outdoor Art Film, Woolsey Park, 8:30pm., Bring your folding chair or a blanket to view New Jersey native, Bruce Springsteen perform the thirteen songs from his album, Western Stars, accompanied by his band, a full orchestra and epic scenery. 9/11 – Stony Brook Walking Tour, Historical Society of Princeton, 10am., Before there was a “Princeton,” Quaker families established a community on the fertile ground along Stony Brook. This part-lecture, part 2-mile hike explores the lives of the early settlers and the community they established, while following a portion of the trail George Washington took from Trenton to the Princeton Battlefield. Stops include the Stony Brook Meeting House and Burial Ground, walking a portion of the “hidden” back road into Princeton, and a view of the Battlefield. Click here for more information

Princeton HealthCare System Community Education & Outreach Program is offering car seat safety checks. Car seat installation can be a challenge for many parents. Approximately 90 percent of car seats are not installed correctly or are misused. Is yours one of them? Have your child's car seat inspected by a certified child passenger safety technician who will 1) Check for proper installation; 2) Verify age/size appropriateness; and 3) Determine if the car seat has been recalled or visibly damaged. Please bring your car manual and car seat instructions. Install the car seat to the best of your ability prior to appointment. Registration is required. 9/17 – Fall Native Plant Sale, D&R Greenway, 5-6:30pm., (Sunday, 9/18 -9-11am)Fall is an ideal time for planting shrubs and new trees, as they establish strong root systems before winter, well ahead of the stress of summer heat. Visitors selecting their plants must wear masks and maintain social distancing. As in earlier COVID-affected events, D&R Greenway Staff monitors 'entrance', as needed. 9/18 – Art All Day & Open Streets, 12-6pm., We're joining forces again for a day of art, bikes, and socially-distanced fun in the streets! 9/19 - 3rd Annual Trenton River Days, 11-3pm., a free event that celebrates the history, culture, and recreational benefits of the Delaware River. Local families and community members are invited to South Riverwalk Park near the Trenton Thunder Stadium to enjoy the festivities. The event will feature canoe and boat rides, free food, live performances, hayrides, fly fishing demonstrations, crafts, and other fun! This will be an in-person event with educational games and exhibits for hands-on fun. 9/19 – Wine in the Time of Climate Change, C-Change Conversations, 5-7pm., The Watershed Institute. The world of wine is becoming more complicated as climate change impacts our favorite wine-growing regions and vineyards. What does it mean for us? How are vineyards coping? Given a warming climate, where will the best wines come from in the future? C-Change Conversations invites you to Wine in the Time of Climate Change, a fun evening of wine tasting and socializing with guest speaker Mark Censits, founder and president of CoolVines. Mark will also share tips for good wines, good deals, and what we will need to think about when buying wine in a changing world. The short program will conclude with tasting “climate forward” wines. It can be quite a challenge convincing your children to eat a healthy diet of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean meats, and conflicting information about good nutrition only complicates matters. Join Heather Bainbridge, EdM, MA, RDN, a registered dietitian nutritionist with Princeton Medical Center, for this informative program to learn the facts about nutrition and weight, and how to help your children cultivate a healthy relationship with food and their bodies.

9/26 – Yoga on the Trails, Nature Center @Washington Crossing State Park NJ, 1:30pm., This unique yoga class will explain the science behind the poses and why yoga is best practiced outside.
