The Hunterdon Mercer County Chronic Disease Coalition Offering a free, virtual series to protect, promote, and maintain optimal well-being - February 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm., the series will address conditions impacting optimal health such as fatigue, pain and nutrition and provide information about integrative approaches that can contribute to optimal physical and emotional wellness. Leading experts in the field will provide an understanding of how lifestyle modifications and choices impact health outcomes and approaches that can be taken that lead to improved quality of life. New Jersey’s COVID-19 Vaccine Call Center, which will be staffed seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., is live. The toll-free number is 855-568-0545. The call center can assist residents with:
• Registering with the New Jersey Vaccine Scheduling System (NJVSS)
• Identifying whether they are currently eligible for a vaccination
• Identifying vaccination locations
• General questions about vaccines

LOVE Your Park Day – February 13 - Join Friends of Princeton Open Space for LOVE Your Park Day at the Billy Johnson Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve. During this outdoor work session, volunteer stewards will work under the guidance of our Natural Resource Manager using pruners, loppers, and hand saws to remove invasive vines and shrubs from the woodland habitat that borders the park entrance. Our work will to ensure a future forest canopy, provide native habitat for wildlife, and enhance the educational and aesthetic experience for visitors of the preserve. The online Princeton Festival 15th Annual Piano Competition is now open to pianists from around the world, with an entry deadline of April 19, 2021. Full information and an entry application is available at princetonfestival.org/2021-piano-competition-rules/. To enter the competition, artists must submit a video of themselves performing a designated piece of music. Participants compete for cash prizes and certificates, plus the Richard Tang Yuk award, named for the Festival’s founding Artistic Director, given to the best performer overall.

2/5 – First Friday Film – “4 Little Girls”, PSRC, 1pm., On Sunday, September 15, 1963, the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, was bombed by four members of a Ku Klux Klan affiliated racist group. Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair, Carole Robertson and Cynthia Wesley, four African-American girls between the ages of eleven and fourteen who had been attending the church’s Sunday school, were killed in the blast. Director Spike Lee’s somber 1997 documentary tells the story through new interviews and archival footage. Running time: 1 hour, 42 minutes; Genre: Documentary Registration required, no fee. 2/6 – Black Holes - Family Science Lecture, IAS, 11am., Virtual talk on Zoom for children 10 and up and their families. Black holes are perhaps the most puzzling prediction of Einstein’s theory of relativity. They squash all matter to a point, trap light, stop time, and cause some of the most violent explosions in the cosmos. Recently, scientists have been able to “hear” the collisions of black holes, and even “see” a massive black hole in a far away galaxy. Register

2/13 – Old-Fashioned Valentine’s Day @Howell Farm, 10-4pm., The air may be chilly, but the farm's wintery landscape is the perfect setting for a heartwarming Valentine's Day ride. Couples can take a romantic spin in a two-seater sleigh or carriage pulled by a team of light workhorses. Families can ride in a bobsled or hay wagon pulled by a handsome team of drafts. At the farmhouse there will be soup on the stove, and a children's craft program from 11 to 3 p.m. for a small materials fee. **Please note that all 2021 Saturday programs will be modified to encourage social distancing and reflect current State guidelines for public events. Lisa Terry plays the bass viol “lyra-way,” with melodies and chordal accompaniment just like a lute with a bow, in these 17th century lessons collected by English gentleman Peter Leycester. 2/18 – Life in Princeton During the American Revolution, 7pm., This talk is based on local historian and author Larry Kidder’s research for his recently published book, entitled Revolutionary Princeton 1774-1783: The Biography of an American Town in the Heart of a Civil War. The discussion will focus on the experiences during those ten years of the Black residents of Princeton and how ideas about enslavement, abolition, rights for free Black people, etc. were changing. 2/20 - Cross-Country Ski Workshop - Washington Crossing State Park Nature Center, 1pm. In this workshop, the participants will learn about the different types of cross-country ski equipment that are available and what to look for in selecting your first pair of skis. Other topics will include: how to dress and where to go skiing in New Jersey. The lecture/discussion will last 1 -1 1⁄2 hour. If the ground is snow covered, an additional 1+ hour ski lesson will be offered. Participants will have to provide their own ski equipment for the outdoor lesson. 2/20 - Virtual Gospel-Music Fundraiser, Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum. The Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum (SSAAM) and the Sourland Conservancy present their popular “Gospel Brunch” fundraiser - with a twist, necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic. On Saturday, February, 20, 2021, guests will have access to a Virtual Gospel-Music Concert, via YouTube, with informational segments and interviews with board members and staff. 2/24 – Virtual Fundraiser, Princeton Community Housing, 7pm., Professor Dr. Eddie S. Glaude Jr. will speak about his latest book, New York Times Bestseller, Begin Again: James Baldwin’s America and Its Urgent Lessons for Our Own.
The fundraising event will include a lecture by Dr. Glaude and a question and answer session moderated by Rev. Lukata Mjumbe of Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church. 2/25 -The Revolutionary World of a Free Black Man: Jacob Francis, 1754-1836 - HCHS Black History Month Program, 7pm., The Hunterdon County Historical Society will host a free virtual program on African-American patriot Jacob Francis, who fought alongside Continental soldiers during the American Revolution. Author and historian William “Larry” Kidder will discuss Francis’s life on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. via Zoom. This program — titled The Revolutionary World of a Free Black Man: Jacob Francis, 1754-1836 — is based upon Kidder’s research for his forthcoming book-length biography of Jacob Francis to be published by Knox Press. Francis’s life reveals an important story of New Jersey and American history that is little known – how people who were neither enslaved nor white experienced the American Revolution and the early Republic period.

2/27 – Free Harlem Renaissance & The Art of Collage Workshop, Arts Council of Princeton, 1:30-3pm., Join local artist Kenneth Lewis Jr. in an exploration of the Harlem Renaissance and the collage work of Romare Bearden.
