OCTOBER 9 AND 10: WEEKEND JOURNEY THROUGH THE PAST. The Van Harlingen Historical Society is taking part in the Somerset County Cultural and Heritage Commission's Weekend Journey Through the Past. As part of this event, the historic Bedensville Schoolhouse, which is located behind the Orchard Hill Elementary School on Burnt Hill Road, will be open to the public on Saturday, October 9 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Sunday, October 10 from 12:00 to 5:00 pm. OCTOBER 21: THE MONTGOMERY-HILLSBOROUGH POORFARM. This program will focus on the Montgomery-Hillsborough Poorfarm, which was in operation from 1825 until 1913. At this event, Henry Dale, Montgomery Upper Middle School history teacher and Trustee, will present the results of his research of local archives and records with a lecture and slide show. It will take place on Thursday, October 21st at 7:00 pm in the Mary Jacobs Library.

NOVEMBER 16: WASHINGTON IRVING AND THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW. In this event, produced by the American Historical Theatre, Neill Hartley will portray great American author Washington Irving, narrating The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. There will be a discussion of Irving's life and other literary work afterwards. This program will take place on November 16th at 7:00 pm in the Mary Jacobs Library.

All three events are free and open to the public.
