Stand with the Banned Books Read-Out, Princeton Public Library

Community leaders, authors and advocates of all ages will read from banned books Monday, Sept. 23, from 4 to 6 p.m. when Princeton Public Library presents the Stand with the Banned Read-Out. The show of support for communities and individuals dealing with censorship will take place on Hinds Plaza.

This event, held during Banned Books Week, will honor books that have been challenged or banned throughout history. Guest readers will read excerpts from classics that have shaped the literary landscape as well as contemporary works that spark important conversations and illuminate diverse perspectives, lives and ideas.

Additional events on Hinds Plaza related to Banned Books Week will include a community art project and a selfie station where attendees can affirm their belief in the freedom to read safely. The Stand with the Banned Read-Out is being presented by the library, Princeton University Press and Labyrinth Books. In the event of rain, the event will be held in the Community Room.

The influence of Latin American music on American popular music comes mainly from South American and Cuban dance music. Starting with "The Peanut Vendor" in 1928, John Clark highlights music by talented artists including: Xavier Cugat, Ritchie Valens, Jimmy Dorsey, mambo king Perez Prado, Herb Albert, and many others.
