Sustainable Princeton to Host Princeton's First GreenFest May 11

Princeton, NJ – April 16, 2019 -- Sustainable Princeton, in collaboration with the Princeton Shopping Center, presents GreenFest, a celebration of sustainable living, on Saturday, May 11 from 11-3 PM. GreenFest is a free Princeton-based event with entertaining and educational activities for Princeton community members to learn how to live a more sustainable lifestyle.
Attendees can expect 30+ sustainably-minded businesses, restaurants and nonprofits, along with sustainable art-making and activities, live music, local favorite "DJ James," and a live animal wildlife presentation.
GreenFest will offer free test drives in some of the latest electric cars on the market, compliments of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Drive Green NJ Program. Visitors to GreenFest can test-drive pure battery electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles from a range of automakers in a low-pressure environment, learn how to save thousands of dollars in federal and state incentives, and see why electric vehicles are fun, affordable and great for the climate and the environment. To take a test drive, a physical valid driver's license and completed waiver is necessary.
"GreenFest will be a fun-filled opportunity for residents of all ages to learn what they can do to reduce their impact on the environment," said Molly Jones, Sustainable Princeton's Executive Director. "Addressing climate change requires each of us to look at our choices through a new lens and GreenFest will empower residents with new ideas and encourage commitment to a personal 'sustainable pledge' to change a habit."
Jones continued, "This event will also provide residents with another opportunity to learn about Princeton's Climate Action Plan; a community-focused plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and make Princeton a more resilient community to withstand the increasing impacts of climate change."
Sustainable Princeton presented for public review, the draft of Princeton's Climate Action Plan. Residents are encouraged to review the Plan and provide feedback at this direct link
Other GreenFest family-friendly highlights include Mermaid Brizo, an advocate for clean water and ocean conservation, a sustainable fashion show, photo booth, a recycling knowledge quiz and a chance to make a sustainable pledge to 'change a habit.'
GreenFest will take place on the beautiful two-acre courtyard at the Princeton Shopping Center, 301 North Harrison, Princeton. The Princeton Shopping Center promotes sustainability by providing features such as an electric vehicle charging station, parking lot rainwater collection islands, and a bike share. Visitors are encouraged to arrive in sustainable ways such as walking, bike riding, (Princeton Bicycle Advisory Committee is sponsoring a bike valet), carpool and bike share utilizing Zagster's docking station at the Princeton Shopping Center located near McCaffrey's.
