Orchard Cafe Opens at Princeton YMCA

Orchard Cafe offers a diverse menu of ethnic foods using fresh, seasonal and local ingredients.  The café specializes in freshly made sandwiches, soups, breads, pizza, fruit smoothies and vegetable juices and hot dishes drawing on Cuban and Caribbean flavors.

Quality food at a reasonable price is the focus — a value passed on through generations in the owner's family. A lunch portion of fish with sides is $7, or $9 with a salad for a dinner portion. Smoothies are $4.50 and soup, served with bread or rice, is $4.

Kate Bech, the Princeton YMCA’s CEO, said,  ”Their cuisine is a wonderful addition to Princeton and anyone seeking new, diverse foods,” she said. “And it lines up with the mission of the YMCA which is healthy spirit, body and mind for all. We’re so thrilled to have them here.”The Orchard Café is located at 59 Paul Robeson Place. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Princeton YMCA Hosts Annual Swim With Santa Event

Princeton, November 30 - Santa and his reindeer will arrive early this year
to make a special stop at the Princeton Family YMCA at its annual Swim with
Santa event. On Friday evening, December 4, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Santa will
take a break from his workshop up north to enjoy one of his favorite Y
pastimes - swimming -- at the Princeton Theological Seminary pool in West
Windsor. A special Swim with Santa event for YMCA Full-Facility Family
members will take place on Saturday, December 5 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the
Princeton Family YMCA pool.  A new, unwrapped toy for children in need is
the suggested cost of admission for both events.

Moms, dads and kids of all ages are invited to come and take a dip with
Santa Claus.  Children will have the opportunity to tell Santa their special
Christmas wishes, take pictures with the jolly old fellow and show him one
or two of their favorite swimming tricks. There will also be special treats
and crafts while Santa serves up his magic with laughter and smiles.

have the opportunity to be together and share in the joy and wonder of the

Terra Learning Kitchen Installs New Learning Garden at Princeton YMCA-YWCA

PRINCETON, May 22, 2014

Driving along Paul Robeson Place in Princeton, local residents will surely wonder what is going on over at the Princeton YMCA-YWCA, as the vines begin to grow along the building’s brick walls and the newly-installed raised beds start to burst with color this spring.  This is the work of the Terra Learning Kitchen, which has added a “teaching garden” to round out its array of offerings to teach the community about healthy living and eating.

A special venture between the YMCA, YWCA, the Suppers program, and the Terra Momo Group, the Terra Learning Kitchen has created a unique setting in which members of the Ys and the community at large can learn about healthy cooking and nutrition in a variety of creative ways, and have access to delicious, prepared healthy foods at an affordable price.  The kitchen features nutritious items that are prepared on site with minimal processing and the menu includes gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free and heart-healthy options.

“This new addition to our kitchen will complement our current program and menu offerings nicely, providing additional opportunities for nutrition education.” explains General Manager Tiffany Baldino.  “The garden will provide an outdoor learning area available for TLK classes, YMCA and YWCA classes, and especially the preschoolers and their teachers.  The children will be welcome and encouraged to visit the garden, as well as help with planting and picking of the vegetables.  This summer, TLK will also be glad to conduct garden workshops for the summer day camp programs.”

Volunteers from NRG dug new beds and planted vegetables as part of its annual Global Giving Day earlier this month on Tuesday, May 13.

“We encourage our neighbors to join us anytime at the Garden,” encourages Ms. Baldino.  “Picnic tables welcome friends to share in a healthy meal together and see for themselves the extraordinary bounty that one can grow in a backyard.  The possibilities are endless – and delicious!”  TLK’s hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 7 pm.  Visit them on Facebook at Terra Learning Kitchen to learn more.

About Terra Learning Kitchen

Terra Learning Kitchen (TLK) is dedicated to educating the public about wholesome food and cooking, and how to make the healthy food and the delicious food both the same thing. It offers a variety of cooking classes as well as healthy grab n' go lunches and take-out dinners. Located inside the Princeton YMCA-YWCA, TLK is a joint venture of the Ys, The Suppers Programs and Terra Momo Restaurant Group.   Part of the proceeds will be dedicated to scholarships for children from less fortunate families.
