High Flying Family Fun on Kite Day at Terhune Orchards

Kite Day, an annual tradition at Terhune Orchards, gets off the ground May 4 and 5 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. This soaring spring festival is a perfect time to explore the farm during one of its most beautiful seasons.  Fly your kite in the wide-open 10-acre pasture alongside the farm animals.

Children can use their imaginations to make and decorate their own kites. (Our kite designs are guaranteed to fly!). Or, choose from a colorful assortment of pre-made kits in the form of birds, butterflies and more. Or, bring your favorite kite from home.

After a successful kite flight, the family can climb aboard a tractor-drawn wagon to see the farm and apple trees, hopefully in full bloom, under the skies filled with kites.  Visitors can also enjoy pony rides and join in old-fashioned games and children's activities in the barnyard. Sheep shearer Joel Markevey will shear sheep in the barnyard Sunday, May 5 at 2 p.m. and children can take home a sample of fluffy wool.

Local bands will play from noon to 4 p.m. On Saturday enjoy tunes by Magnolia Street String Band and on Sunday by Borderline.

Kite flyers will find farm fresh lunch items and snacks at Pam's Food Tent. Try the barbecued asparagus, a tasty spring treat. Sample the barbecued chicken, country style chili, hot dogs, famous apple cider donuts and fresh pressed cider.

The winery tasting room will feature our own 14 varieties of wine from grapes grown right here at Terhune Orchards.

Admission to the festival is $10 for ages 3 and up. Parking is free.
