10th Annual Studio Band Dance at the Cranbury School April 27, 2012

The award winning Princeton High School Studio Band will perform at the Cranbury School on Friday, April 27th at 7:00 pm.  The band is just back from performances at the Berklee HS Jazz Festival where they were winning band in their division.  The dance will also feature a performance by the Cranbury School Advanced Jazz Band.

Over the years this big band dance has become much anticipated tradition as the students from the middle school get to  “open” for the Studio Band.   Midway through the evening the Cranbury Students are invited to play with the Studio Band.   Many of the students in the Studio Band are Cranbury alumni and they enjoy returning to Cranbury to perform for their friends and neighbors.  Alex Anderson, a PHS senior from Cranbury remembers attending the dances as a young boy.  “I remember going to the dance when I was in the third grade.  After it was over I actually asked the director and some of the musicians for their autographs!  I had no idea I would end up being the Studio Band drummer for four years.”   Band director, Joe Bongiovi enjoys the dance as well.  “It is great to see the support of jazz in the Cranbury community.  The dance gives the rising middle school students the opportunity to experience what is in store for them at Princeton High School and is a really fun night.”

The Studio Band has been a Princeton High School institution for 35 years and has a long list of accomplishments. Most recently the band won the 2012 Berklee High School Jazz Festival (for the third year in a row).  In December of 2011 the band travelled to Hawaii to perform in the 70th Commemoration of Pearl Harbor.  In 2010, The Studio Band was the first high school jazz band invited to perform in a program at Carnegie Hall featuring outstanding high school music programs. In addition to its 2010 wins at Berklee’s High School Jazz Festival and the Heritage Festival in Monterey, CA, the band was the winner of the 2009 Disney Jazz Festival competition in Florida.   The band will be competing on Saturday, April 28 at Princeton High School in the NJ Jazz State Finals.

Tickets for the dance will be available at the door.  Adult tickets are $6.00 and student and Senior tickets are $4.00.  Doors open at 6:45.  The Cranbury Dance is a fundraiser for the Princeton High Band Program as well as a fund raising event for the Cranbury School 8th Grade Class.  For more information about the Studio Band visit
