AARP Tax-Aide Volunteers Available to Help Hopewell Residents with 2011 Returns

AARP Tax-Aide volunteers will be available to help Hopewell Valley residents prepare their 2011 tax returns and answer tax questions. Appointments will be available between 1:30pm and 4:30pm on the following dates: February 27, March 12, March 26, and April 9.

This service is provided by local AARP volunteers with special attention to residents age 60 and over. Residents are asked to bring all relevant financial information and tax forms to their appointments. Appointments are required. Please call (609)737-0605, ext. 692 or awaugh@hopewelltwp.org to make an appointment or for more information. All appointments will be held at the Hopewell Valley Senior Center, 395 Reading St., Pennington.

The AARP Driver Safety Program is the nation’s first and largest classroom refresher course designed especially for drivers 50 and older.  Participants learn defensive techniques, new traffic laws, and rules of the road. Through interacting with one another, they find out how to safely adjust their driving to compensate for age-related changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time.  Participant must have a valid NJ driver’s license. Graduates receive a certificate of completion that entitles them to a reduction in their auto insurance premiums in NJ. This course is being offered at the Hopewell Valley Senior Center on Wednesdays, April 25 and May 2, from 1-4pm. Participants must attend both days to complete course. The course is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. AARP & YMCA membership is not required. Participants must attend both days to complete course. The course is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. AARP & YMCA membership is not required. Upon completion of this two-part course, you will receive a certificate of completion to send to your insurance company.  Participants will learn:



  • Defensive driving techniques
  • New traffic laws and rules of the road
  • How to deal with aggressive drivers
  • How to handle problem situations such as left turns, right-of-way, interstate highway traffic, trucks and blind spots
  • How to safely use anti-lock brakes and safety belts

Course participants may be eligible to receive a reduction in their car insurance premiums (consult your insurance company for details). Course participants with NJ driver’s licenses may be eligible to have up to 2 points removed from their driving record. There is no age requirement for this course and you do not need to be a member of AARP. A CarFit Check-up event will be held on Thursday, November 18, in the parking lot of PFWC immediately before the driver safety program. This course will be presented by an AARP instructor. Please provide the names of all attendees.

AARP Offers Free Tax Return Filing Saturday Mornings

IRS-trained volunteers from AARP will prepare federal and New Jersey tax returns from 9 a.m. to noon every Saturday through April 16 at Nassau Presbyterian Church, Princeton.

The free service is available to all with an emphasis on low- and moderate-income filers. Returns are filed electronically with paper copies provided.

Tax preparation is on a first-come, first-served basis. A Spanish translator will be available.

Filers should bring copies of last year's tax returns and all necessary 2015 tax documents including W-2 and 1099 forms, unemployment statements, medical insurance documents, Social Security forms, property tax bills, dependent care provider information, and receipts for itemized deductions, such as medical bills and charitable contributions.

The church is located at 61 Nassau St.  Enter through the double doors on the parking lot side of the church; turn left at the bottom of the stairs.

AARP volunteers also prepare returns, by appointment, Monday mornings at Princeton Public Library (call 609-924-9529, ext. 220) and Friday mornings at Princeton Senior Resource Center (call 609-924-7108).

Participants must attend both days to complete course. The course is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. This November AARP is offering the class free of charge to all veterans and their spouses, widows, and widowers. AARP & YMCA membership is not required. Call the Hopewell Valley YMCA 609-737-3048 to register. Hopewell Borough Hall is located at 88 East Broad St. in Hopewell.

Participants must attend both days to complete course. The course is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. AARP is offering the class free of charge to all veterans and their spouses, widows, and widowers. AARP & YMCA membership is not required. Call the Hopewell Valley YMCA 609-737-3048 to register. Hopewell Borough Hall is located at 88 East Broad St. in Hopewell. This program was originally scheduled in November, but postponed due to Hurricane Sandy.
