Boheme Opera NJ Opens 29th Season with Plans for Milestone 30th Season

One of Mercer County’s most popular summer venues is Arm & Hammer Park, home to the Trenton Thunder.  On Friday, August 25, Boheme will host its third summer event with Boheme Opera Night at the Trenton Thunder, as its chorus sings the 6:45PM opening National Anthem and reserves a large block of seats for the ball game as a mini-fundraiser.  The Richmond Flying Squirrels will play Trenton Thunder at Arm & Hammer Park.  Join the Boheme Opera group for a fun night at the ball park. Tickets must be purchased in advance at $12 per person.  Checks should be made payable to Boheme Opera NJ and sent to:  Sid Morginstin, ATTN: GAME, PO Box 8101, Trenton, NJ  08650. Your tickets will be mailed directly to you.  Please send your order with return address by August 10 to allow time for ticket delivery.

On Sunday, September 24 at 3:30PM, we will be at the Mercer County Italian American Festival at Mercer County Park.  Highlights of selected opera and Broadway shows will be presented by two Boheme artists accompanied by the Boheme Opera Orchestra under the baton of Artistic Director Joseph Pucciatti.

Our series of events at the Monroe Township Library will continue.   All are on Wednesdays and start at 1 PM.

On October 11, we will present Happy 150th Birthday, Don Carlo for the 150th anniversary of this famous opera.

On November 8, the Music of Kurt Weill will be presented.  Kurt Weill (March 2, 1900 – April 3, 1950) was a German composer, active from the 1920s in his native country, and in his later years, in the United States.  He was a leading composer for the stage who was best known for his fruitful collaborations with Bertolt Brecht, his best-known work being The Threepenny Opera, which included the ballad "Mack the Knife".

On December 6, Boheme Opera will present Puccini as You’ve Never Heard Him, featuring several of Puccini’s lesser known but beautiful arias.

Boheme Opera returns to Grounds For Sculpture in Hamilton Township on Friday, December 8 at 7pm for its 6th Annual Holiday Event. This is free with paid admission to the Grounds For Sculpture.

In the Fall of 2017, we will tour a concert version of Verdi’s La Forza Del Destino.  Dates and location will be announced.

In the Spring of 2018, we will mount a new fully-staged production of the famous double bill of Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana and Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci.

Boheme Opera NJ’s 30th Anniversary Season in 2018-2019 will include a tribute to Leonard Bernstein on the 100th anniversary of his birth with his Trouble in Tahiti.  This work features some of Bernstein’s most haunting music.  Begun on his honeymoon in 1951 between his Broadway successes of On the Town and West Side Story, it’s a candid portrait of the troubled marriage of a young suburban couple.

The 30th season will also include one of the world’s most famous operas:  Verdi’s Aida. Set in Egypt, it was commissioned by Isma’il Pasha, Khedive of Egypt to celebrate the opening of the Khedivial Opera House.

To learn about Boheme Opera NJ’s busy schedule, visit www.bohemeopera.com  on its Public Outreach page.  Information will be updated after the summer, including news about its popular appearance at the Mercer County Italian American Festival at Mercer County Park on Sunday, September 24.  Watch for details about the company’s spring 2018 main stage production and related events.
